I have an acer aspire one, and last week for some stupid reason i decided to delete a few things of the laptop. due to the fact that i'm an I.T thick i obviously deleted something i wasn't supposed to and now i have no sound at all.
when i go into control panel and sound and devices, i cant change or adjust any of the options if that makes sense. i have also tried to re-install and disable and re-enable the sound drives (no idea what that means, me mate just talked me through it ) but it said the hardware could not be found.

anybody got any advice........................................apart from , don't delete stuff your unsure of :(

    cheers

if you can remember what date you deleated the files, you can do a system restore.do you have any idea what files they were you deleted or even where they were located.what operating system are you using?

did you try a system restore?if not then:

    1)click start
    2)accessories
    3)system tools
    4)system restore
5)restore my computer to an earlier time
6)then choose the date that you know was before you lost your sound.

your computer will reboot and if you have updated at any stage over the last 2 weeks you will be prompted to do so again.

see how that works for you

i re-set the system to way before it happened and still nothing

i tried to uninstall the audio device, and re=boot and install but said the wizard could not find the software.

i tried to download acp7 sound card for it but it said the installation package could not be opend...please verify that the package exists ???

I went to download drivers from Acer website http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...s_one_110.html but i stopped and said something about a time out and couldnt install

all these were based on recommendations as i am clueless myself :(

ah computers the thorn in everybody's side.

ok give me the exact model and serial number of your laptop .it will be on a sticker somewhere on it.
    then got to

    control panel
sound and devices and tell me whats in default device in both boxes and then click and run the hardware test

    cheers man
    its an ACER AO531 / ZG8

okay in volume it says "no audio device"
sound scheme it says ...windows default
in the audio options its says no devices

i cant find an option to run hardware device

when i go into device manager there is a yellow asterix at "audio device on high definition Bus" when i hit properties on that the device status says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"
if i try to reinstall the drivers it tells me that its cant because the wizard can't find the software

if i deleted a realtek programme could that be the problem ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,061 ✭✭✭damagegt

yes it most definatly is thats what controls your sound.

if you havent installed winrar or winzip then do.

they go to this page http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads_gd.html
and set the operating system to xp

then download the audio driver and install.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,635 ✭✭✭miller82

okay i dowloaded that, and two folders are sitting in winrar. but still no sound .
do i have to activate it or what ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,061 ✭✭✭damagegt

after download you should have a folder in winzip\winrar called

    audio_realtek_6.0.1.5911
double click then you should see a list of files
    click setup.exe
