Updating jailbroken iphone to 3.1.2?

    Hi,

Jailbreaked/broke (?) my 3Gs to 3.1.0 back in the day, was locked to O2 wanted to use on Vodafone.

Never updated to 3.1.2 when it was out as was too SCARED to do so lol, now of course 3.1.3 is out for a while & no way I'm going near that... no reason to anyway...(battery %.. yeah right!!);)

    Questions are-

    a) is there any way of updating to 3.1.2 and by passing .3, as I believe it was/is actually safe to do so?

    b) was there anything good in that update anyway... is it worth it?

    c) my SHSHs were never stored on Cydia that I know of, is it possible to do that now in retrospect, even though I jailbroke months ago (don't remember getting the option to do so..)? Seems like a good idea to have it there, just in case ie iTunes new update reporting problems with jb phones though mine seems ok so far...

Thanks to all Tech Gods in advance:D

hmmmm after some more research I guess I could use this great guide by Mixednuts (thank you Tech God :D)

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=64727789&postcount=

    BUT my worry is that-

-my SHSHs are not stored on Cydia...

    and

-I am on the Vodafone network though it was originally an O2 locked fone...

    Specs
Phone type: 3Gs (I think, not sure how to tell the difference, it's 16gb)
    model: MB500B
    serial (1st 5 digits) : 88915
    sim you wanna use: Vodafone

Did you use CYDIA much ?

Are you currently still JB ?

Its important I know what type of phone it is (3G or 3GS) , I think its a 3G , but to confirm Go Here and type in your serial , it will tell you your phone type .

Yes, use it regularly, mostly Winterboard stuff, BigBoss apps etc

Yes, to use iPhone on Vodafone network (was locked to O2 originally), though can't connect to internet as can't d/l network settings without updating to .3 apparently (though have all setting correct in Cellular Data Network) & Voda tech support won't talk to me cos it JB... though they are happy to take my money every month!!

If I wasn't having any problems I wouldn't bother updating and re jailbreak & unlock .

But If you still want to update and re jailbreak you can use the below instructions .

Before you proceed make sure you have all your Apps synced with Itunes .

For all your CYDIA apps use "aptbackup" ...download it from CYDIA before you proceed. Its doesnt backup the actual apps , it takes a list of all the CYDIA apps on your 3G .
When you are finished updating simply reinstall CYDIA and again download aptbackup , this time hit restore and it grabs the list and installs all the Apps again in 1 go .

So here are the instructions :

    STEP 1 :http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=7443

    STEP 2 :http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4253

    Thanks Mixednuts,

The problem I am having (& it's a biggy) is that my iPhone won't connect to the internet... and I have no idea why....
OK it's an JB O2 phone used on Vodafone network but it should still connect.

I changed from Vodafone Simply to Perfect Choice Access Plus so I would have the 2GBs included but still can't connect.

Tech, support won't help cos it's JB & not one of theirs, the only thing they keep telling me is that I need to d/l carrier settings via iTunes but they can't tell me how to do that except by updating to 3.1.3 which obviously I can't do... I have manually input all the settings but it still won't work...

When I first got it, months ago, and JB it, I could connect no problem, but found it was always on, didn't have the GBs included in package, paying by the KB, so first bill was in the €100's:eek::eek:

Changed a setting to stop that and haven't connected again until now with the more expensive package GBs included... well, except by wifi... which I don't have at home anyway!! Have re-inputted Vodafone Live settings in 'network' 'cellular data network'...

Vodafone Live settings seem to be the problem... maybe..... I wish someone could help, it's driving me nuts!!:mad:

How was it always on ??...could it have been your email accounts always getting spammed and you get charged for downloading the push mail ?

    My vodafone settings are :
    APN isp.vodafone.ie
    username:vodafone
    password:vodafone

    MMS:
    APN mms.vodafone.net
    Username : dublin
    password: dublin
    MMSC http://www.vodafone.ie/mms

    .

Those were the same settings I was using originally (successfully) when I didn't have the GBs included in the package

    iPhone ISP Settings
    Do the following:

    1. From the iPhone Home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Select General.
    3. Select Network.
    4. Select Cellular Data Network.
    5. Under Cellular Data enter isp.vodafone.ie as the APN.
    6. Set username to vodafone.
    7. Set password to vodafone.

Advise customers of the default charges for using the iPhone for data on the Vodafone network. The default charges on the ISP APN are:

 2c per kb up to 512 KB.
     €0.001 per kb over 512 KB.
     NB 1024 kb = 1 MB

If a Postpaid customer would like to use data on their iPhone recommend the 1GB promo ISP data bundle for €10 (inc VAT) per month with a 2c per KB out of bundle rate.

but when I signed up for the Perfect Choice Access Plus they gave me these new ones to put in...

To set up a Vodafone live! connection:

    1. From the iPhone Home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Select General.
    3. Select Network.
    4. Select Cellular Data Network.
    5. Under Cellular Data enter live.vodafone.com as the APN (leave username and password blank).

    iPhone MMS Settings
To set up an iPhone up for MMS:

    1. From the iPhone Home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Select General.
    3. Select Network.
    4. Under MMS enter mms.vodafone.net as the APN (leave username and password blank).
    5. Select MMSC and enter http://www.vodafone.ie/mms.
    6. Select MMS Proxy and enter 10.24.59.200:80.
    7. MMS Max message Size and MMS US Prof URL can be left blank.

Yeah it probably was the 'push' notifications that was messing it up... can't remember now as wasn't too pushed using it anyway as cost a fortune!
