You can find the APN settings in the sticky:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055516939

Anyway, the ones you need for an iPhone on the Live! APN apparently are:

    APN: live.vodafone.com
    username: dublin
    password: <blank>

I have no idea what they charge you for that when roaming though so someone else will have to answer that. I use the Vodafone ISP APN instead and never use it outside the country as it's not cheap...

If you have the 1GB ISP add-on, as I have, you are entitled to use the !Live settings - just change the APN to the one in your post when you go outside Ireland. I did this weekend before last in the UK and it cost me nothing. This was confirmed by Vodafone on their forum:

Cool :). Yep, it's the 1GB ISP add-on I've got as well. Didn't know about the cheapo access to the Live! APN when roaming though - I assume it works that way in all countries that have an official Vodafone partner network then?

Brill. Gonna activate that now so. Cheers.

Ps. The list of reasons to change to vodafone gets longer.

I think they said it won't (or Shouldn't) work on an unapproved network....I just set mine to VF UK and it was fine.

    Domestic Mobile Broadband Extras
Product Extras Data Limit Cost *
DATA* Daily Broadband Add on* 500MB* €3 Add*
DATA* Weekly Broadband Add on* 2048MB* €10 Add*
DATA* Monthly Broadband Add on* 5120MB* €20 Add*

These seem to be the only ones I can add on. You reckon they'd do the trick. 5 gig for 20 quid ain't bad. I'll be able to stream the rugby and the golf for that!!

I'm almost certain that the broadband add ons do NOT cover the use of the Live! APN and therefore roaming is NOT inclusive in the price. If you are Prepaid and want an add on for your iPhone that allows roaming then sign up for Vodafone 360 and ask for the add on for that. Price is about 12€ per month (taken out of your credit at about 39c per day) and the data allowance is 100mb / day.

Is it the 1GB ISP add on or one of the mobile broadband add ons you have? The 1GB ISP add on does indeed allowing use of the Live! APN and therefore roaming is included. But I'm refering to the mobile broadband add ons as described in Post #8. Those add ons are for use in Ireland only and any use outside of Ireland will be charged.

Also, if you are using the Live! APN abroad then you do not have to be a VF partner network. Any network that VF have a roaming agreement with that includes data will be covered. e.g. you can use Three, Orange, O2 etc in the UK and there will be no additional data charges.

    Update:
using the live apn here in Spain as I type on the iPhone and it is costing 99 cent per day. Used it on Friday to watch Leinster match on slingplayer but managed to go over the 50 mb daily allowance (no surprise) and it sucked 25 quid of credit!!
Also a lot of sites are blocked like facebook, skype. But in fairness 99c a day for data roaming is pretty cool.

Facebook works just fine while roaming using Live APN (used it in South America recently). Skype and any other VoIP app does not - the terms and conditions even tell you that you are not allowed to use VoIP.

Well it ain't Working for me (app and site) along with some of the vodafone sites too! google, boards, AIB all working fine.

Using the Live! APN will cost 99c a day abroad and will allow you just 50mb of roamed data. If you use your handset as a modem this will not last long.

You must roam on a Vodafone partner network (e.g. SFR in France) in order for this facility to work.

You may or may not be able to get 100mb per day if you sign up to 360connect too.

You should have got a Yoigo SIM.

A lot of things are blocked: for example on the iPhone, messaging facilities like Ping! and YAK! will not work, which is a PITA.

Live shouldn't be as restricted as some people seem to be indicating here. You probably have an age restriction on your account which seems to filter some sites/apps. Call them and ask. Facebook, skype, etc are all completely unrestricted.

And no need to be on a VF partner network. Any network that they have a gprs/3g roaming agreement with works fine.

Yes, according to this from the Voodoo FAQ, this is the case:

"What about roaming and Mobile Internet?

Vodafone Mobile Internet is the same price when roaming abroad as at home. The service will be accessible from any country where we have a 3G or GPRS roaming agreement."

In my experience in France however, this only worked in practice when choosing SFR, not matter what Voodoo say or claim.

Roaming in France has always been unpredictable with any provider in my experience! ;) From strange things like being able to use the 2G network and not the 3G network, etc, etc, I've seen it all in the last few years. That said however, when I was briefly in the airport in Paris a few months ago whatever network my phone auto selected worked perfectly with the live APN.

I was mostly trying to reassure people with regard to potential billing concerns as some people have been incorrectly telling others on the VF forum that you must select the local 'preferred'/partner network or you get charged. Whereas the reality is that if it works, it works, you will not be charged no matter what the network is called! :)

Oh and an ironic thing I've noticed is that when roaming the access speeds are normally faster than the 3G speeds I get in Ireland! Even from the US!

    whats that?

    whats that?

A virtual Spanish network. Internet works out of the box. 1,39€ a day (when I was last there). 10€ buys you the SIM with 10€ credit. So, you're covered for a week. Throw it away and buy another one, every 7 days. Available in The "Phone House".

(Unless anything has changed since my last visit).

    Cool, thanks for that.
