I am returning to Ireland in about a month from Australia!

I have a degree and over a one and a half years experience in Ireland in Media, Marketing, Customer Service fields. Fallen a bit out of touch with recruitment i Ireland. What sites are best to use at the minute, don't want to go through agencies at the minute as I will applying for roles as I travel home so can't register with agencies in Dublin etc. I am willing to live anywhere i the country. Any help in regards where to start would be much appreciated. Also I know things are not great at present but realistically how long is it taking to find work in these fields?

    Thanks!!

I'm in the same boat myself, except i'll be back in ~2 weeks 33A

I've heard from different people that things aren't really as bad as it's played out to be. But it's hard not to see that things really are that bad! How are people in Ireland finding it generally? Anyone else here who's just come back from overseas and job hunting? how are you finding it?

    its all about perspective !!

are you willing to work at ANY job or do you want to work in a specific field - there are some jobs if you know some people and/or are lucky/ very good and/or willing to work for a lot less than in previous years.

I've helped a couple of people learn how to work as freelance photographers and have passed work on to them (just so I could give them experience - despite me loosing money)

OP - you might get lucky and fall into a job or you could be "searching" for months.....if you have some money together I would suggest you start something yourself - now is the time that businesses get started - with the right ideas/work ethic.

Fas.ie will give you idea of real jobs.
I think its quite depressing at the moment, only good thing is spring is finally here.
I would say ask friends to keep am eye out for you. (word of mouth)
Because unemployment is growing + growing.
Anyone who says its not that bad i would guess has a job :)

There are more jobs now than there was 6 months ago in Dublin anyway but for one job you may have 50 applicants. I think with so many people with equal experience and qualifcations companies are rubbing their hands with glee and I imagine it is quite difficult for them to pick candidates for interview fairly so its all about luck at the end of day.

I am leaving my job at the end of June but I am lucky as I am getting a great redundancy package but jobs in my skills set are difficult to get at the best of times nevermind in a recession so I may have to just take any job for the time being. Or leave the country which I am not sure I really want to do.

Has anyone seen any research on how long it takes someone to find a job? I haven't seen anything in papers but anecdotally I have heard a year or more.

    :(

anyway, I'm none too fussy about the work to be honest. Sure, everyone loves to get a job in their field, but I've done plenty of sh!te work in the past, it won't bother me much to do it again in the future.

munstergirl, yah, the guy who told me, in his opinion, things weren't as bad as the media says, he's in a pretty secure job! Not looking forward to the job hunt now..

I quit my job last Aug to to a year course which is finishing up in a few weeks so I'm beginning the full time job hunt again. Maybe I'll change my tune in a few weeks.....but so far for me, it seems better than what I was hearing throughout the year.

I've only applied for two jobs and got an interview for each of them. Granted they are only interviews and I haven't secured anything yet but from what I was hearing, I wasn't expecting to even get an acknowledgement.

I'm only looking at what I really want right now and spent a lot of time tailoring my CV to the jobs and it seemed to have worked to get my foot in the door.

Perhaps the industry I'm looking at is starting to pick up......or I'll be disillusioned in a few months time and start mass sending out my CV to anyone who'll look!
