M50 Blanch interchange chaos

Insanity tonight, coming from Blanchardstown wanting to get southbound on the M50, poor lighting, roadworks, scattergun signage, detour signs pointing everywhere, the southern exit closed off. We went around twice with cars swerving all over the place, then toward Dublin following detour signs, which guide us BACK to the roundabout, and still no way south, so we go via Lucan on the backroads. I at least had some idea of where I needed to be, anyone not familiar with the place or a tourist must have been traumatised, it really was that dangerous. And nowhere was there clear signage as to how to get southbound. I cannot believe we are still so bad at this stuff, someone should have their asses kicked, there must have been multiple crashes/near misses there tonight.

I feel your pain! I go through that junction most days going to and coming from work. I really cannot understand how they continue to get away with the slapdash way they approach the traffic management in these situations. All it would take is one of their guys to drive the route in advance and plan it a little.

I look forward to it all being finished as it will be worth it then; I come from Dundrum so have seen great changes in last 10 years on the M50 so once this junction is finished my drive is going to be shorter again.

At present though I do wonder how tourists and out of towners manage to make their way through this junction - even when they are not closing some of the ramps.

I have a mildly amusing story..

Last year they completed a bus lane just before the N3/M50 junction as you come from Blanchardstown. Put up lots of signs saying what a wonderful thing it was.

I got done for driving in it. Fair cop, no complaints from me.

Then, they ripped the bus lane up and reconfigured the junction. The bus lane was there for no more than a week or two. The left hand does not know what the right is doing!
