Weekend Bouts

There are three big(ish) bouts this weekend:

On Friday we have Audley Harrison vs Michael Sprott. Okay I know most people couldn't give a toss about this and neither did I up until a couple of hours ago. I changed my mind when I read this article. Audley believes that he is "two fights away from the Klitschkos" and will get a fight against one of them before Haye! I'm going to be cheering Audley on because there's nothing I would love to see more than him being KO'd by one of the brothers. I still chuckle when I think back to those Saturday nights on BBC at the turn of the century where after beating some random bum, the BBC pundits would go on to state that he truly is "Britain's Next Great Fighter", they would actually have us believe that he was Lennox Lewis' successor:rolleyes:

The Main Event in Vegas this week is the Superfight between Evander Holyfield and Frans Botha for the highly prestigious WBF Heavyweight Title. I don't know where to begin with this one, we have two old men who shouldn't be anywhere near a boxing ring giving it their all for 12 rounds. 10 years ago, people were saying that Holyfiel should retire but here we are in 2010 and the "Real Deal" is still boxing. The funny thing is that right now, he should be the World Champion, he was robbed against Valuev but that's ancient history at this stage, I for one am a lot happier to see David Haye with the belt than a 47 year old Holyfield. As for predictions, I'll go for Holyfield on points

Berto vs Quintana is also on this weekend. It's Berto's first fight since pulling out of his date with Molsey after the Haiti disaster. Quintana is a decent fighter, the only man who can boast a victory over Paul Williams, but I think Berto should get the win here and possibly set up a fight with the winner of Mayweather/Mosley

Harrison -sprott: I reckon that will be a good fight. Being ebu champ would be the highlight of either mans career and I think Sprott deserves it more.... then defend against rogie!!!! :)

See barker vs belghachem (lost to andy lee in his last fight) is for the ebu title macklin vacated. Don't the ebu have some rule that you cant be coming off a loss if u fight for their title? Or is that just a loss in a world title match?

Rees in also on the undercard for a 6 round lightweight bout, fighting some journeyman while testing the waters in the lighter divisions before going for any title.

Berto-Quintana: Another good fight, Berto wont be looking across the ring at a mayweather or pacquiao next but if Money does a job on ssm then berto-mosely could be a possibilty.

Guillermo Rigondeaux is continuing his fast track pro boxing apprenticeship by taking on Raynaldo Lopez. Also on the undercard is Celestine Cabellero as he dips his foot into featherweight waters as he dukes it out for wba interim honuors with the undefeated Duad Cino Yordan. This will make 3 wba title holders at featherweight... Nice one!!!

Undefeated Irish fighters Dean Byrne and Keiran Maher will be looking to enhance their records in their respective saturday night bouts. while Dean Byrne(11-0) continues his assualt on the light welterweight division, Maher(4-0), the mancunian paddy looks to make easy work of his debutant opponent.

Former Macklin Victim Rafael Sosa Pintos takes on fellow uruguayan Juan Carlos Alamo for their 154 national title.

Lamont Peterson takes on Damina fuller (30-6 hasnt fought in 18 months)

Holyfield - Botha: The should be wba champ looks to lift the wbf strap as he takes on the white buffallo, this one is almost as prestigious and relevant as the other heavyweight bout taking place this weekend as George Arias attempts to unify the brazilian heavyweight title. This would put him in position for the winner of the potential mouth watering harrisson - holyfield bout, a revenge fight with harrison would be right up there with last weeks hopkins-jones 2.

    It could happen!!!

Rigondeaux has pulled out of his saturday night fight and has split with freddie roach as eh feels he was not getting the attention he deserves as 2 time olympic champion.

No interest in Sprott/Harrison or the OAP championships states side.

Berto/Quintana is a very exciting fight. Many see this one as a handy fight for Berto but I can see Quintana giving him some serious problems. Berto hasn't fought in a year and Carlos has shocked the world already by beating Williams so he won't be intimidated by Berto. If it goes the distance I think Quintana may get a split decision but it is possible Berto will KO him.

I'll be watching Darren Barker with a keen eye tonight as he could be a future opponent of our own Andy Lee or Matthew Macklin somewhere down the line. I'm almost certain Barker will take this but I'm interested to see if he can do what Andy Lee couldn't and finish the fight in the distance.

Dean Byrne's fight has been cancelled. Don't think he will be fighting until May or June.

barker vs belghachem: what a fight. The frenchie unlucky not to walk away with the belt though. During the fight i heard that macklin and duddy are set to fight. According to boxrec Duddy is fighting chavez jr in june.

Irish featherweight Willie Casey(5-0, 4 early) handed canadian champion tyson cave(10-1) his first loss via an 8th round tko. It is the Limerick mans biggest win to date in his young career and first time to fight as a pro overseas.

No way is Barker World class, just hasn't the power and he'll get K.O'd with that defence.

Great result for Casey, has anyone seen him fight?

Judgement days is here, the Fraud that is Berto is going to be found out :D

Holyfield vs. Botha shouldn't get any mainstream attention.

Berto vs. Quintana is a good fight. Quintana has only been beaten by top fighters and Berto hasn't really faced too many opponents at Quintana's level.

Berto may need his power to save him, Quintana is very very good and in with a shout of an upset.

    really good fight

some KO punch in th end from Berto

Hes very raw . needs alot of refinement and work

Reminds me alot of Jemaine Taylor.

Berto v Margarito would be a great fight

I could nt see him beating Mosley though.

good night of boxing overall. enjoyed it . later all
