I haven't played the Heritage but from word of mouth I'd go for Palmerstown. Its pretty long but pretty fair with some wonderful aesthetics.

I've played both - The Heritage about 6 years ago, in a complete downpour, and PGA this time last year, in a day like today. I would say if you can deal with the awful smell of the nearby landfill sight then PGA might just shade it, but boy is it a long trek, with nearly as many yards between the tees as the course itself! And I didn't have any snacks or drinks with me so I was fúcked going around the 2nd 9!

I believe The Heritage is in bad financial trouble though, so you might get a good deal. Plus if you're on a day trip from Cork then it'd be slightly nearer for you, plus it would be less physically demanding for your drive home after!

Both courses (and clubhouses) are quality, but as Stumpy points out the aesthetics of Palmerstown (no longer 'PGA') are impressive. The condition of Palmerstown has been the subject of some debate recently. The first thing I suggest you do is find out when the greens at both courses are being hollow-tined as that may have a major impact.

The things I remember about The Heritage are the big fairways, massive bunkers and the great greens. No photos of it (if you go perhaps you could take some for me) but Palmerstown is here.

Heritage for me,palmerstown is nice but when we played it last august it was in very poor condition.

    Heritage for me.
I like Palmerston a lot, but I find the Heritage a more enjoyable and challenging course.

Haven't played Palmerstown but have played The Heritage about ten times and absolutely love it. Fine course and outstanding clubhouse.

Personally, I'd go for Heritage 100 times out of 100 over Palmerstown. The latter is a Disneyland course with little archetectural merit. Jam in as many lakes as you can type of course. Just my opinion, of course, and many people disagree with me.

Heritage is always in good condition. real risk and reward course. palmerstown has fabulous facilities but the condition of the course is hit and miss. It does not take water well. Both are doing deals. I would play the Heritage every time ahead of Palmerstown though.

I've played Palmerstown a few times now - it really is a special place on a beautiful summers day with a plush locker-room, great facilities and a nice aura about the place.

Playing Heritage with a few mates on May 1st for €40 each - nice to see that the deals are still being offered for great quality courses (even outside of the winter season).

Have played both, Heritage in Pouring rain & Palmerstown in perfect sun, and would rather play Heritage in the rain, wind or sunshine

heritage seems to be edging ahead.

heritage seems to be edging ahead.

I think I might just go down and play it myself.
