Am i going do lally or did a fighter jet just fly over Newtown? i live on the top of a hill on the letterkenny side of newtown, i was out tidying up outside and heard the roar, it looked to come over letterkenny, and head out over killea / derry direction, very unusuall, it was extremly low rattled the windows of the house as it went past, ive never seen one in donegal before never mind cross the border!!!

anyone else see/hear this or was it just me the GF and our neigbhors (who were petrified by it, lol):confused::confused:

    Did it look like this?
    pilatus1.jpg
Air Corps Fleet - Pilatus PC-9M (training plane)

Believe it or not the Irish Aircorps do have a few planes:D, might have been on a training flight from Finner, but i doubt it would have headed into the North if it was one of ours.

When i was a kid i remember a few different days when there were planes taking off and landing in Finner.

British military planes can fly over Co. Donegal over 10,000 feet thanks to De Valera's agreement with Churchill... http://www.finnvalley.ie/glenfin/other/planecrash/atlantic.html

this one was breaking the rules of that agreement, although last week russian fighter planes had to be escorted out of British airspace when they were intercepted flying over Scotland... but these were long range fighter jets and fly at high altitude

Was out on Rathmullan beach this afternoon and it flew over twice and headed in the Fahan direction. A jet not a propeller plane.

I defo wasn't an irish air corps plane, it was a jet type plane too, judging by the noise out of it, it was a dark colour too, not exactly sure but it was defo dark....

Interesting that if it was a UK plane, because if it was it was nowhere near 10000 feet more like 1000 feet, at least i know im not gong mad because Glenalla seen it too (phew), was it flying high when you seen it? I wonder was there any more russian planes about, Imagine that Dogfighting over donegal again, lol.

If it was a dark colour as you say it most likely was not an interceptor, they would not be down low as they use alot more fuel at low level that would be needed for a long range intercept . Most likely a Tornado GR4 or Hawk (actually a bit too far out for a Hawk on internal fuel) on low level training or possibly but unlikely a USAF F-15E based in the UK.

I'd say so seeing that. Didn't know the French were back in town. Making the most of our airspace for low level VFR I see.

I was just speaking to a relative of mines who says yer man "barber" (not sure of the spelling) owns a few planes and has a jet one too(ex-aribic air force i think he said), he is the fella who owns the whitehouse complex (shop/off license/beuro de change/ loads take aways/a fancy car wash) on the buncranna road in derry, could be him and could explain the few passes over fahan / rathmullan he done, could have been him too, i was i had the camera handy although by the time i would have the camera pointed skyword he would have been over derry anyways.

I prefear the idea of brittish/russian planes having a dogfight though :D:D:D
