Speed Limit on Glen Ellan Road, Swords

    Anyone here familiar with Swords and can tell me what the speed limit along the Glenn Ellan distributor road is?

    I'd always assumed it was 50hm/h on the basis of a lack of signage to the contrary. There are 60km/h / 50km/h back-to-back speed limit signs at the junction with Balheary Road that show 60km/h on the Glenn Ellan side, but they could easily have been turned around by vandals. None of the roads off the distributor road have speed limit signs for the lower limit that must apply to them.

    I'm interested because I see the Gardai with speed cameras along the road on occasion and wonder which limit they think the are policing. Certainly the ambiguity is causing drivers to take different views of the limit which in turn induces some bad behaviour.

    Is there somewhere that shows the full list of speed limits in the Swords area, or does on have to read all of the Statutory Instruments to understand the limits that apply?

    Thanks. What's weird is that the Balheary Road at that point is also 50km/h, so no matter which way the existing speed limit signs face, they would be wrong. I guess someone from Fingal Co. Co. messed up when they revised the limits a few years back.

    It would be interesting to see what would happen if one was caught doing the posted 60km/h limit, but happily I won't be the one testing it :-)

    This thread started about a road in Swords, then it moved onto a completely different road in a different city. Can the mods split these apart please?

    There was a plan that the gardaí'd check the speed enforcement zones

    but their website now has a dead link there....

    There's no mention of the Glen Ellan road in the linked excel file, so maybe they're shooting fish in a barrell to pay for Anglo?

    They are the priority zones, not the only zones.

    Obviously "were", as they're on a dead link now.

    I emailed ags last May about the limit on the R132 which isn't signposted if you enter the section from Turvey avenue, and I'm still waiting.....

    The limits in Swords are daft especially on the r125;
    it's 80 here

    and 60 on the dual carriageway from the M1 to Airside....

    You need to discuss that with the council.
