    Hi folks

    I've got a Samsung 40" HD ready tv, model LE40A456C .
I've built a HTPC which I have connected and is working out wonderfully for me. The next step I want to take is to get rid of my sky subscription and get a DVB-S TV card into the HTPC. This should get me all the freeview satellite channels.

I also want to get the terrestrial digitial channels available. I've read RTE have a test broadcast available in the Limerick area which I'm hoping I can pick up.

My question is, rather than buy a DVB-T tv card for the PC can I just plug the aerial directly into the TV? I only noticed the other day that the TV has a DTV input channel, does this suit my purpose or is it not that simple?

The manual wasnt too clear for a newbie like me . Any help is appreciated.

If I were you would get a DVB-T/DVB-S combo card. Hauppauge do one..

With DVB-T and DVB-S in your HTPC (presume Windows Media Centre) you can have full 8 day guides for all free Irish and UK channels for scheduled recording and (totally legitimately). Everything in one place under your media centre remote..

    thanks for the reply slegs

I'm using ubuntu 9.1 actually. the DVB-S cards seem to be fairly cheap, a lot cheaper than a combo card but you're probably right either way though, it would be worth the extra few quid to get the epg for the whole lot

the combo cards I did look at seem to be either analog + satellite which I presume is not what I'm looking for is it? Other than that I've found dual DVB-T + DVB-S combo cards which allow two of each(obviously) which I dont really need either.

anyone care to recommend a DVB-T + DVB-S combo card that will work outta the box on Ubuntu9.1?

    cheers
