Mouth ulcers

    Hey,

Got an awful mouth ulcer right at the back of my jaw, right between my upper and lower wisdom teeth. I've had it since the weekend and it doesn't seem to be clearing up anytime soon. It's absolute agony when I eat.

I've tried that Bonjela stuff but it's useless, hasn't had any effect.

    Any advise/recommendations?

if it's traumatic, ie. it's where your teeth are biting the cheek/gum between the teeth, then you may need to get a cusp smoothened off to give it a real chance of healing.
usually you just have to let ulcers run their course, which is about 7-10 days. keep it clean, using corsodyl mouthwash. don't hold a painkiller beside it if it get's bad, that'll make it worse.

Cheers man, I'll definitely get some of that mouthwash you mentioned.

I also heard gurgling salt water helps - anyone ever hear that?

I know it sounds wierd but my boyfriends mum (shes a nurse) told me once to put TCP on them. It really really works, and doesn't even burn at all (or taste as bad as you'd think) :). makes them completely disappear in a day or two!

    Hope it works.

Bonjella complete works very well with single ulcers.

theres a thing that i got which is like a cotton bud, two bulbs- one at each end of a stick- one is filled with a liquid and the other you place on the ulcer, then you release the fluid (by breaking the bulb on the end iirc) and it like burns off the ulcer with these chemicals!! stings like hell but gets rid of it straight away! :D cannot remember for the life of me what its called but you get two in a pack in the chemist OTC. i think its in a red packet! i dont think u can use them near your teeth though, only on the lips, but i could be wrong there, im just assuming.

if thats a bit too sore (it really is painful but effective) or you cant find it then theres also an aloclair mouthwash or you can get a spray too, which creates a bit of a barrier over it. its a bit better than salt water but not the most effective.

bonjella complete looks good but havent tried it yet! no doubt il get a chance to use it eventually!

if you're prone to mouth ulcers its generally from being run down afaik, i get them alot and i was told this is why!

I always had brilliant stuff called Adcortyl in Orabase but it's been taken off the market -dunno why.Last time I got stuff in chemist called Iglu - it was ok ......I agree with the salt thing - I think it helps.
Get your iron levels checked - low iron can lead to ulcers...

Is it Gentine violet by any chance? It due to be tried shortly , once i find where i left the bloomin bottle .Tried the mouth wash , no joy, salt and water just annoys them !Te complet I would recomend if you can reach the buggers , and the run down may be a cause. But for me its not . Ive had tons of blood tests done recently trying to find something amis but have had no sucess so far .
Tinture of myrr (murr or however its spelt !) is another one Ive to find and try

i think i used them before too, they were quite good if the ulcer was in an easy to reach place but if they're far back it doesnt really get to it. but everybody is different so its worth a try
