No, the iPhone supports a very limited Bluetooth stack, only streaming audio and headsets.

Methinks it is a case of the American designers not "getting" Bluetooth and deeming non-audio Bluetooth functions as unnecessary.

No, to stop people transferring music phone to phone.

A song purchased on one iPhone/iTunes account will not play on another iPhone with a different iTunes account, so sharing protected content is rendered pointless. Also, have you tried sending a number of files via Bluetooth? It isn't overly fast. So transferring an album would take a while.

I think it is more to do with what I said above - Americans designers not seeing the need for the other capabilities of Bluetooth.

Apple have to be seen to be proactive against piracy, and allowing their devices to transfer music wouldn't have gone down well with the labels. Jonathan Ive is British, and I'm sure he well knows what Bluetooth is for, after all they have implemented it fully in the Macs.

Tom Dunne is right, except that most music on the iTunes store is DRM-free these days. So I think it in fact will. However there's still the fact anyway that an iPod has to be synced with iTunes as opposed to just copying music, so I don't think that'd be a big issue.

If you are running a jailbroken device check out iBlueNova in cydia.

This app works perfectly for sending pictures via blutooth, haven't tried sending any other file types.

Edit: there is an option to send pictures, videos, music or "other" file types.

I know I can send songs from my iphone direct to my laptop over bluetooth with it.

The pictures I received went straight into my pictures section in the file manager! Have a look in there?
