Accord diesel timing chain rattle

Looking for someone who has experienced this issue. I have a '04 diesel accord with 110K miles on the clock and the timing chain is making a very loud rattling noise when the engine is idling. Looked this up online and found a UK Accord owners forum. In the forum one of the members stated that this issue was covered by Honda dealers; "Take it to your dealer and have it checked for a rattling timing chain - it's covered for up to 125k miles or 7 years by Honda extended warranty - won't cost you a penny"
Has anyone had a similar experience/taken to a dealer to be repaired?

I'd say contact a dealer and see what the story is. Timing chains are generally guaranteed for the life of the engine but it really depends on what the manufacturer states.

Does the car have a full Honda Service History? I would imagine this would go along way towards a good will gesture from Honda in the event the chain is not guaranteed for the life of the engine.

The last 2 services were done by Advanced pitstop, aside form these its a full Honda service history. Might try give a couple of dealers a call tomorrow to see does this 7 year extended warranty apply to my car

They have been known to go on these engines.

Heard a story of someone who's timing chain went on their diesel accord. Tried to get Honda to fix it under warranty but they wouldn't touch it as it hadn't got full Honda service history. New engine is going to cost 2.5k WITHOUT labour to fit it.

If I was you and my timing chain was rattling badly on an engine that had a known issue, I'd be booking it in first thing in the morning to get it sorted out!

Gave a couple of dealers a call this morning and they tell me that the timing chain is not covered under warranty if the car has not got a full dealer service history. That way they can blame poor servicing for the issue if servicing has been done elsewhere.
Is the replacement of a timing chain something I should only get a dealer to do ir can any independant garage do it for me?
Is it a costly and labour intensive job to replace the timing chain?

Also, a mate of mine who drives the same car has put 0w 30 fully synthetic oil into his car. He reckons its the only oil you should put in this engine, anyone else go along with this?

Are you sure it's the chain that's rattling? I had a rattle recently that I thought was my chain but turned out to be something different.
Tensioners on my car operate off oil pressure so decent oil was my first move. It turned out to be an alternator belt tensioner, I figured it out as the rattle wasn't through the entire rev range.

Thanks for the suggestion, I am going to change the oil to a fully synthetic and then get the tensioner checked out.
The rattle is sporadic and is not through the full rev range.
If these fail I will look further into the timing chain. I take it your car is also an Accord?

Hi I have a 05 Accord. I found out about the extended warranty for the crack in the exhaust mainfold and honda ireland have agreed to do the work under warranty. I also see honda uk have done the timing chain and injectors under warranty. I think I may have a problem with the injectors as well. has anyone got this covered under warranty in ireland
