    Any ideas on books or info on the above for working out a dimension on a drawing for a cad question

    What are you looking for? That drawing is hard to read, but doesn't appear to be missing any dimensions. As for the Least Squares method: it usually refers to a numerical way of finding the Slope and Intercept of a straight line that best fits a set of data (linear regression). It's used by various computer programs, even Microsoft Excel, for this purpose.
