cow went down last week..fecking nightmare, never had TB before. Vet tells me possibility of getting away with one clear test if she kills out ok, anyone else get clear after one test, got the impression he was giving a story to soften the blow..

Happened me two years ago. A fine Charlois Lim cross cow heavy in calf went down. She had an infection on a leg I couldn't cure and I suspect it gave a false result on the test. I think her immune system was down.

Anyway, she reacted in the test, Was taken and killed out clean. I had only one retest and no problem. When I got that cards back I didn't ask any questions! Vet said it was rare enough to get away with one test, but we rarely have had a reactor, maybe one in 20 years and I don't tend to buy in which helps.

ya i had been injecting this cow for that eye thing they get sometimes from silage, I wondered if that might have caused the test result, she has a nice calf about 5 weeks old, shame but what can you do

Sore eyes from silage - that's pink eye.
Can be prevented by taking the plastic off at least 12 hours before using. OPTICLOX - it's a white ointment in plastic syringes. It will cure it , no time.

As for TB. My neighbour's herd just got it. Thankfully we havent got it in at least 10 years. We were plagued by it once, almost every year. Blamed the Badgers. The place is full of them.

Going by your username - do you have the same problem, badgers that is?

always take plastic off at least day before bale use Pak but have about 5 cows that got it this winter, vet told me taking off plastic makes no odds anyway, he says it can be dormant in cows for a while, he puts it down to wet year s right or wrong..ya hve badgers im sure but they never caused any trouble for the last 20 years and if they were responsible surely more might have gone down, had cattle to sell of course...
