    Hi all

I am about to start a 20 page essay on control systems engineering. I honestly don't know where to start. I have to provide constructive, intelligent and professional technical data on the following quote

" The developments in control engineering have been numerous over the past 100 years or so, and have made a phenomenal impact on our daily lives. "

The target audience for the essay is fellow engineers.

I would appreciate it, if people with experience in this field could point me in the right direction.

    Regards

It's a huge field, all right - no shortage of ideas. For example, a modern car is packed with control systems, some you see (e.g. cruise control, air con, automatic gearbox), and some you don't (radiator thermostat, fuel injection system, traction control/ABS braking). Just about every industrial process has it in some form, and I think it will help to look at various forms. Closed loop, open loop, feed forward, PID, etc.

If you're expected to cite papers, try searching Google Scholar, and turn on the BibTex option (in Settings) so you can get the citations in a standard format. It's OK to start at Wikipedia, just make sure you don't stop there.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.
