Laptop only working when battery not connected

    Hi all,

I recently had my laptop repaired (a replacement motherboard). It was fine for the first week but now the laptop won't power on when there is a battery connected.

I have two batteries and the problem exists with both of them. I can turn it on with the main's connected, but as soon as a battery is inserted the power is cut.

The battery is not charging when the laptop is off either. It would appear that the batteries are short circuiting the laptop or something.

Can anyone give me any way to fix this?

    Bnev

I would suggest that as the problem occurs with both of your batteries, then it is probably your replacement motherboard rather than the battery that is the problem, maybe part of the charging circuit ?

Did you talk to the person who replaced the mobo, about this problem? Did they give any warranty ?
I'm guessing the replacement was a secondhand one, and that your laptop isn't exactly recent. No offence intended.

Yeah it's about 3 years old. I was told that the motherboard was a new one. Had to wait a few weeks for it to be ordered in.

I will go back to the shop where it was replaced but just wanted to see if there was an obvious solution I was missing before heading back.
