There is not really any way of making them go broody,
except giving them the opportunity to sit on eggs,
If you get a bantam hen that is inclined to be broody,
they will vitually try to hatch stones.

If you have the hens laying, you can try leaving the eggs in a nest box
to see if they will sit on them or if they are not,
you can put some eggs in a nest box to see if they will sit.

If you don't have a hen already,
you can see if someone else has one that is broody,
they would be glad to get rid of it unless they want it to hatch eggs themselves,
as is it is a pain to go to collect the eggs,
and have one that keeps sitting in a nest box and not laying.

    Dvs.

i've a buffsussex hen who occassionaly takes to sitting on 3 or 4 eggs for 2 or 3 hours and if you put an egg near her she will get up and put that egg under neath her, so when she does go broody i just put a few pheasant eggs under her and let nature take its coarse?

ya it would be grand to let her hatch pheasants
just make sure she is separated away from the rest of your flock
a buff sussex should be well able for upto 8 hen eggs so she would be able for a good bit more pheasant eggs

When they're hatching, be careful about making load noises nearby. That can kill the chicks in the shell, especially during the last week.

You need to get yourself a silkie or silkie cross much better clocker than a sussex
