ok this post will probably be all over the place so sorry in advance.

Im currently in college doing a science degree. I have one year left. Im 21 years of age and still living at home. I dont know why but with all the gloom in this country im really worried about my future. Im convinced I wont find a job. I dont know wheather to travel when i finish, go on to do some kind of masters. God i dont even know if im doing the right course for me. I have a bit of money from saving over the years. Do i use this to go travel and enjoy the last remaining years of my youth and lack of responsibilities? do i move out? I have a bf and he's hoping to do a postgrad next year. when he finishes that i'll be finished my degree too. Im just worried about what life holds for me in the future when i finish my degree really and im going to have to make some big decisions regarding my life and what routes i want to take. It scares me so much. Next year is my final year and im going to have to start thinking about postgrads and all that lark. Im fed up with being in education and want to just get a proper job but i know thats probably not gonna happen without some kind of higher education. I want to see the world. I want to move out. I want to make a life for my self and hopefully with a partner. My mind is all over the place. I want my bf to be apart of my future but im scared of us wanting to go in different directions. I just have this fear that i'll still be at home at the age of 3o with nothing to show for myself. Am i making any sense? probably not.

I dont really know what i want from posting this...just wanted to vent really. I just find the future daunting in terms of jobs, and making decisions. How do people sort out all of this stuff in their life. Is it just a case of playing it by ear. Am i too young to even be worrying about this?

Your at just the right stage to start thinking about the future. Try not to let things get you down yet. Imagine having a masters in architecture or engineering and sitting at home on the dole with a wife and kids to feed and not being able to get a job. there are a lot of people in bad situations in this country at the moment.

The best people to give you an oversight of the current jobs market in your industry at the moment is your college lecturers and tutors. If you really want a job after graduating then start chatting to them in your final year and get an assesment of the current market. They'll tell you who's hiring and where you can find the best jobs. Some companies are actively seeking new employees if you are in the right field, especially in science. If you dont want to doa postgrad at the end of your degree and cant find a job within a couple of months then id definately recommend getting a few plans together for travelling. Its the one thing i regret not doing and now that ive settled into a decent secure job i know deep down that realistically ill never be able to just take a year off and go back packing or something.

It shouldnt be a daunting time. Enjoy the unpredicability as you never know where your gonna end up working or living or what kind of adventures you'll have if you decide to go exploring.

Dude.. all situations are relative.. so while you can listen to other opinions w/regard to your situation, only you can apply the necessary energy to achieve forward momentum.
But for what it's worth... let me give you a little prespective...
I'm 36... bought a property @ the height of the market = it's now worth half it's value.. I've recently been let-go from my job.. and am in debt to several financial institutions; so basically financially I'm destitute for now!!
But... I have amazing friends and a passion for rock climbing/mountineering... so I'm getting on with it and looking forward to the future.
Best advice I can give.. is find what you love doing and focus all your energy towards achieving employment in that specific area... but first and foremost.. don't be scared. You are 21 and you are in for some amazing experiences... why not travel??... why not reach outside your comfort zone???
The most amazing experiences I've had have been when I've been outside my comfort zone.. try it!
Regarding your boyfriend... you can't let your fear of what may happen dictate what you want to achieve in life.. if it's right and he loves you then it'll fall into place. If you pander to anyone in this life you are wasting your own time and energy.
So, step outside your comfort zone and enjoy the ride... it's pretty cool.
Best of luck... (what the hell am I doing posting @ 2:13am :o):D
