Can I get back on the higher rate?

I opened my JSA claim in late Sept '09 (i think) and started receiving it after a ridiculous wait, probably December or something. I was elligible for €204 a week.

I then missed my signing day in Jan, as I was visiting family for my 21st, and stopped receiving payments as a result. I had to have my claim re-opened which has resulting in another obnoxiously long wait, in the mean time I've applied for Supp welfare but it's only €100 a week, so I assume whenever they bother to process my JSA claim it will only be 100 as well. I really cannot live on that much (will virtually all be spent on food & rent) so I was wondering would I be able to be put back on the 204, as it's not like my claim was a brand new one in '10.

    Cheers

No, you definitely won't be on 204.

Tbh if I was the deciding officer and heard that you missed your signing date because of a birthday then I would'nt have much sympathy

Really? You wouldn't have sympathy that having not seen my family in a long long time, I got to see them for my 21st birthday? Or that I now have €8 left per week to spend on bills, transport etc making it near impossible to "jobseek"?

Nope. You could have signed in the morning and then gone to see your family, or seen them the next day. No one appreciates a sob story.

Also, are you sure your stamps haven't run out and that's why you're on the lower rate of JSA?

JSA was reduced in the last budget for people under a certain age (23 i think) could this be relevant ??? Maybe missing the signing in Jan is a coincidence to the reduction...

You have posted on numerous threads about various aspects of the fall-out from missing your signing on day and not collecting some payment/s from the post office before that. Your claim was closed so this claim that is being processed now is a new claim and subject to the reductions introduced in the Dec '09 budget.

I appreciate that you are faced with real difficulties now but, instead of repeatedly posting and attracting some sharp replies here, it might be best to approach the CWO who is already assisting you and if the CWO can't help further, then approach the St. Vincent de Paul:

Yes, I have absolutely no sympathy. You are responsible for your own misfortunes. You did not apply in advance for holiday leave, which would have excused you from signing.

You don't take advice, and keep on and on posting this same query. Why are you posting again???

You are 21 years old now, so I would expect you to act like an adult. I hope you have a more mature attitude to seeking employment.

IMO anyone who misses their (once a month) sign on date deserves whatever cut is brought in. I was on the dole for a year up to last october. Not once did i miss a sign on day - i didnt want to be cut off! If there are unforeseen circumstances you could always go in the day before (or after) and explain.

It's actually only once every THREE months now, which makes it even more inexcusable.

Seriously, just accept the consequences of your choices and move on. No one here is going to agree with you no matter how many times you bring this up.

Not that I agree with the OP's situation, but it's not every three months. Well not for me, or anyone I know anyway. It's once a month.

Many SW offices have changed to quarterly signing, due to the large numbers of people signing on. I know of one office that last had signing in September. This is another reason why there is a stop put on bank payments, as by virtue of signing your post office slip, you are effectively signing to say you are unemployed and still satisfy all the qualifying conditions.

I signed on in November and I haven't had to sign on ONCE. Not due to sign until June. Not gloating or anything - I think it's ridiculous.
