did you have to do an embassy interview?

last year i didnt have to do an interview when i applied threw usit because they said the rules had changed

go4less are asking me for a time to do my interview and im just wondering if this is just a part of the process and they will tell me i dont have to attend or will i have to actually go

As far as I know they only want to interview you once. I didn't have to go for an embassy interview the second time. Remind go4less that you have been before, maybe they have gotten confused.

I'm currently on my third J visa. I didn't have to go for the interview in the second one but because this current one is the year visa I had to go again, it was very straight forward, just like the first one. Its unlikely that you'll have to go again if its just a normal summer J-1. First year I was with Sayit, second year with USIT and now with Sayit again. It was dependent on the visa type and not the company I was with.

What was the actual Interview process like?? Do they grill you?? I'm heading for my interview for a 12-month IWT visa in awhile and I've never gone over for the normal j-1 summer visa and am just wondering.

cheers for any info folks. :)

No, they just want to clarify that you don't have other intentions for going over other than the experience. They want to know that you're not going to go over and get married or stay there illegally or anything. So basically you have to try prove that you are going to be returning in a year. This is difficult because you can't even book your return flights so since its your first time just act excited and say you can't wait to experience a different culture and have a real job. Also of course they want to make sure you aren't a terrorist but you answer those questions in the forms :p

As long as you have nothing to hide you'll be fine, just have all your paper work in order and know what you're talking about and you'll be on the plane before you know it!

They generally ask you what year you are in college and take that as proof you will come back. In my interview they asked me where i was going, where i was going to live and where i was going to work. All I knew was that I was going to santa barbara. They didn't mind that I had no where to llive and no job yet. There are hundreds in the same position.

Anybody know what the deal is applying for a visa if you've gotten a ticket over there before?

Like a speeding or parking ticket? It shouldn't affect you. All those tickets go through the civil court, for visas you only have to worry about the criminal court, a cop in New York told me this. They won't even know about it when issuing your ticket. As long as you paid it, otherwise it may have been handed over to the criminal court.

A ticket for drinking underage. In cali unfortunately where they are so strict but over half the people who go to SB end up with one. I paid it straight away so hopefully it'll be ok :P
