Dress damaged

Hello, I'm new here to boards and was wondering if someone could help me. I recently purchased a beautiful Kate Sherford wedding dress valued at €2500. As the dress was previously worn at a fashion show I just had to get it cleaned but apart from that the dress was perfect andI did not have to pay the full value price for it . I dropped the dress in to a wedding dress specialist shop 6 weeks ago and got a phonecall on Saturday to say that it was ready. Myself and my bridesmaids went to collect the dress and brought it to my freind house to try it on. When we took it out of the cover we noticed at the front of the dress at the bottom it was like the material had just disintegrated and if you put your hand under the dress you could see through it. It actually looked like the material had been stretched all along the bottom. When we turned the dress around the lace at the back of the dress was torn also and the straps at the back had this stretched look also. I called the shop immediatley and spoke to a lady who told me to call back to the shop and she would take a look at it. We drove straight back to the shop and when we got there we were told that the lady had left and their was a young teenage male standing behind the counter. I had no option but to show him the damage done to the dress and he said he would let the management know but the dresses are not cleaned on site so I would have to wait to Tuesday and they would call me. The guy had absolutely no interest or understanding of why I was so upset about this and just handed me a ticket with the phone number of the shop on it. I have been so upset all weekend as there is no way that the dress can be worn and I can't honestly see how it could be mended. I know in my heart that I will not get a phone call from the shop and I am planning to go there on my lunch break tomorrow. What do you think is going to happen? I feel sick at the thought of having to try fight this but as it is I had my dream wedding dress and I cannot afford to purchase a new dress. I don't know what to do.

If you go to the consumer issues section and do a search you will find a few issues like this and some information to help you. Unfortunately thoughas far as I recall, the dry cleaners are only liable for the cost of the cleaning.

OMG that is just awful. I really don't know what to say to you. I rem years ago something similiar happened to a girl locally here the week before her wedding. she went to the local seamstress who stayed up nights on end and made her dream dress, but I understand you don't have the money for this. Go to the shop and picket outside if you have to, ring joe duffy, just do everything you can to get them to refund you the full cost of the dress. Do you have wedding insurance? Hope it works out for you.

I spoke to the shop yesterday and they are trying to tell me that it is a manufacturing problem. They told me that I should go back to where I bought the dress. By the end of the conversation he has agreed to source the material and replace the whole skirt. I'm still not convinced but will see how it works out but really it is taking a lot of the good out of what should be a very exciting time
