Woman on welfare (long term) went into her local office. She wanted money to buy her daughter a communion dress. The dress she wanted had a price tag of 350euro. The social offered her 100euro and she went mad saying it wasn't enough and she was entitled to more.

    What the hell!

well the social welfare system has loopholes that alow some people - not usually recently unemployed - but people who have hardly worked a day in their lives yet manage through loopholes to take home over €45k a year for a family due to all combined welfare.

    I think it's fair.

I'm also using it to judge the female population of Ireland. Bloody women.

how much does a communion dress need to cost to be decent? M&S 60/70 quid?

    Why should she get extra?

How much will a normal working family spend on their daughters dress this year?

    The list goes on.

this term seems to be used a lot by employed and unemployed Irish people in everyday interactions were they don't get what they want.

Wel under the communion Dress entitlement grant scheme everyone on the taxpayer is legally obliged to pay for the full cost of the communion dress for anyone on social welfare regardless of how ridiculously expensive it is.

Where did you hear this? Were you present in the Social Welfare office when it (allegedly) happened?

You've already been asked those questions, but (for some reason) have neglected to answer them...

    For your own Communion dress??

Social Welfare shouldn't be giving any extra towards Communion dresses in the first place, assuming the incident did happen.

surely the welfare came out to check the state of the house before giving her the money for replacing the windows,so surely they must have known they were fine.and i really dont need the hassle if they found out i reported them.

While she was waiting for it to be delivered she was chauffeur driven around about her business because, and I quote "Me moicra is a clapped ou poile o shoi so I boornt it ou"

I went to collect my dole in Nutgrove earlier this week, and they told me my 50 bag allowance was being reduced to 30 euro a week for a quarter of soap. Cowen out, it's a fcuking disgrace.

Some people are even hacking off one of their legs, just so's they can hop down the Social to get disability, and also so's they can park their Ferraris closer to the off licence. Fact!

Situations such as this occur every day of the week in Social Welfare Offices.

In reality there is no limit to what one on long term Social Welfare can request cash for.

    FACT.

Okay, first of all, Social Welfare don't pay money out for items of clothing.

This is done at your local Health Centre and has to be applied for as a Supplementary Payment.

Social Welfare don't just dole out money to people cause the want to buy dresses for hundreds of Euro.

I'm not doubting the OP but maybe the 100 Euro was the her Clothing Allowance which everyone is entitled to once a year if you can prove your circumstances are bad enough, but even then, it is once a year payment.
