So Mr Ganley bane of Lisbon 1 has been quite since Lisbon 2.
    Q. What's the opinion out there, would he be a runner for a new party, to tap into the "anger" out there, or would it be strangled at birth by our encumbents ie FF FG ect.

#It would actually increase people voting for FF.

People in Ireland think about how dodgy things are.
In number one place are Sinn Fein, still extremly dodgy in most people's eyes. Then Socialist Party. Then FF. Then Unions - I mean Labour.

FG are picking up votes not because of any inspiration purely because of a lack of a credible alternative.

Ganley comes along and has the dodge factor as Sinn Fein so he makes FF look less dodgy than they actually are.

A new "protest" party is the last thing this county needs, no better way to undermine the opposition. (FF may be setting one up as I type)

I have no idea what policies if any he may or may not have but he did seem to have a creepy sort of charisma that might have tapped into a disillusioned underbelly, if such thing existed in Ireland. I suspect however it does'nt and in truth so many people are bewildered and scared (look at ps unions going into talks and coming away with absolutely nothing) that they dont know which way to turn.
Armaggedon bekons when FF ressurect themselves, as they will at the merest sniff of an upturn, and their loyal sheep (they havent gone away you know) rally to their cause.

I think that all the strangling would be done by one Mr Ganley. He certainly would unite the fringe elements, I suppose, but that again would be more rope to strangle themselves with, going on his last outing.

Personally thinking about it, I would be in agreement with a new party which would hold a public forum to consider the opinion of pissed off people of Ireland, before formulating policy. It's about time someone took to bullying Government parties into explaining the current mess we are instead of explaining it away.

Im of the opinion of voting for Independants myself as I may agress with some policy, but would rather not be affiliated with any political party.

Well, if has failed twice to convince the people and on both occassions thrown the dummy out of the pram and quit,..................then of course Declan Ganley is the man for the job.

That's just a recipe for populism, which is exactly what got us into the current mess.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Declan Ganley? The people have already spoken on this political non-entity, he is entirely irrelevant to Irish politics, no matter how much money he wants to throw around pretending otherwise.

He tried to "save" Europe and look how that worked

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Ganley, on his defeat in the European elections - "I will not be involved in the second Lisbon campaign....I sought a democratic mandate and I didn't get one, and that is how democracy works. And as I said I can take no for an answer."

Apparently he can't, in fact, take no for an answer.

No different to the Irish political establishment then is he?

In the case of the Lisbon treaty I have to admit, you have a point.

The "Irish political establishment" sought and were given a democratic mandate by the people. Mr. Ganley, on the other hand, sought and was denied a democratic mandate by the people. That is a rather fundamental difference between them.
