Summer jobs in Limerick City?

    Hi guys!

Anyone have any advice on where might be worth throwing a CV into in the coming weeks in the hope of getting a summer job? No particular preference on the type of job.

Is it worth trying to speak to managers rather than just dropping a CV in at reception?

    Thanks for any help! :)

Don't waste paper dropping it into places, any place i've worked in, CVs invariably end up in the bin. You are far better off applying online and emailing your CV direct. I went around with an unemployed friend of mine handing in CVs recently and the majority of companies directed us to their website. HR managers don't want to be trawling through mounds of CVs, its much easier for them to flick through them on their computer.

Most bookmakers hire cashiers over the summer. Money is grand and the hours aren't too bad depending on where you work. Try to speak to the manager in a few shops and see how you get on.

    Well SoCo,

What do you want to do?

What can you not do or do not want to do?

Will you work a 40 hour week?

Was that a poem or a rhyme?

It would be mostly part time I'd be looking for to be honest!

I'd be open for most jobs. Although stuff like hotels, certain sports shops wouldnt be ideal for me :P

Contract People - http://www.contractpeople.com/ I was dealing with a guy called Dave Harrington. Top bloke and I only turned down an offer of a job from him today. They hire for loads of different companies. They might have jobs going between Dunnes and Tesco stocking brands of a certain product from the store to the shelf or counting stocks or merchandising.

Lites Group - http://www.litesgroup.ie/ Similar to Contract people but I never had a need to deal with them because its normally all temp and contract work

    FMI - http://www.fmi.ie/ What I said above

http://www.jobs.ie is where I find good jobs. Select Limerick, don't bother with a job title because the way things are the daily updates aren't that large. On the right select "sort by date" to see the freshest results.

I also know 3 are hiring on Cruises Street and possibly Meteor as well.

Edit Here is the job in fact

    http://www.jobs.ie/ApplyForJob.aspx?Id=1038121

Move fast because it has been up there since Saturday and you can expect at least 1 million people to have applied by now.

Best of luck. I have been out of work since the 19th March and have been desperately looking and I truly mean desperate. There is definately something out there but its finding it is the hard part.

Myself, Im off to Glasgow on Thursday for an interview.

Cheers but what I wanted to clear up from the last post is that

"There is something out there for everybody but finding where that elusive job is and who is the gatekeeper is the hard part"

I think the 3 shop option for you would be a good option because its a nice job with some technical knowledge which will demonstrate on your CV you can understand sell complicated equipment and close deals.

Free phone as well. Score! ;)

I mentioned FMI. Their current job in Limerick is not worth wasting your time

    http://www.jobs.ie/ApplyForJob.aspx?Id=955505

New to be a bimbo basically selling / promoting crap at events, pubs and clubs usually dressed up in spandex.

If you think you have what it takes then apply below and attach a full body photo.

Aw - They forgot to even mention the bit about having a Junior Cert before they lost the run of themselves and got all sleazy, creepy, unbuttony 'n seedy focussed on personal appearance and presentation.

I flew to Glasgow yesterday morning for a 3.5 hour interview. It was pretty intense. I guess its just the way things are now, they feel they are investing much more of their time these days because business is harder / more competitive.

I was told to head off I might know later that day or within 24 hours. I was sitting at the gate waiting for my return flight when the guy arrives and sits down next to me(on same flight), shakes my hand and say "We would like to offer you the job".

:D All I wanted then was a smoke but I was trapped in a terminal.

So, for anybody out there looking for work there is sweet fvck all out there. Unskilled and frontline jobs come and go often enough but anything above that are extremely hard to find because for every rare job that comes up 500 people apply for it who are highly qualified.

Looking for a job is tough. Is there any other place and is there any places that would offer work experience for a student in the University of Limerick? for example lets say the City council.

Noticed in Oasis BT's window yesterday there's a sign up for Temporary Sales Advisors. It's probably a summer holidays position, but should be decent enough pay (I've worked there before).

Limerick City Council - Job Requirements:

    Red nose.
    Beer Belly.
    Low IQ.
    No work ethic.
    An air of perpetual indignation.
    Arrogance.
    Poor judgement.
    Penchant for huffiness/fighting.

    - On topic though, have you contacted the Enterprise Board, Shannon Dev. etc. and mailed your CV and a cover letter to the HR Managers of everyone going outlining your skillset and how you might benefit them?

Unfortunately I am young, athletic and educated so it looks like the city council is not for me. Thanks for the kind words anyway!
