    Hey all...
Any info on the condition of the Reeks?
Maybe heading for 3/4 days camping/hiking in the Reeks next week (Thurs - Sunday)... much snow and @ what height?
If there is snow has it consolidated (is there a need for axe/crampons)?
    Cheers.:D

Haven't been up, but from what i can see yesterday and today, there is still a bit of snow on the highest points and ridges, but i assume will start to melt pretty quickly especially with the wetter weather forecasted for tonight and next few days

Was on Eastern reeks yesterday. Went from black valley side. Snow from about 650m, loose enough, none of us had crampons and ground under was not hard frozen until we got to the ridge. Was gonna go across top of ladder to Carrauntoohil, but that was under fog so just went up Cnoc an Chuillin instead.

Cheers guys... looks like the weekend is going to be good (that's Irish good!!).
I may (w/partner) try howling ridge on Sunday... any hints/tips?
I'm leading to VS @ the moment and my understanding is that the climbing is not that difficult (D-S), but it's the exposure that's the issue.
    Any info?

    Eeek!

Good luck. Would love to try it sometime, but still happy enough exploring the various standard trekking routes around the Reeks rather than anything that requires ropes. Ask nathan kingerlee here I'd say.

By the way, snow all but gone, can just see a few pockets clinging on to the south side of the Eastern Reeks. Might be different on the north sides.

Howling was in fantastic condition on Saturday.... nice steady climbing... not technically difficult but the crux is the exposure...
    Still buzzing... :D
