Hey lads,im currently training in MMA and hoping to have my first fight within 6 months.
My question is,what weight class should i go for?
I walk around at 170lb ish and 111cm (5,9.5").My main attributes are boxing and BJJ.I could easily gain a stone and weigh in at 170 lb but i could also lose a stone or more if i really tried but that would but pressing it!
If anyone can give there opinion, tips or anything that would be great!

    Thank you!

If you are gonna have your first fight i assume its going to be League rules and i assume it will be same day weigh in so i would say just fight at your "walk around" weight. You dont need to cut weight yet. You will lose weight naturally through training and closer to the time you will find a division that suits you.

    i did'nt know that,thanks.
i know its hard to say without seeing me or training with me but the guys i do train with are all about 2 stone and a few inches bigger then me so they cant really say what i should aim for.
Should i stick to my current weight or go for for lighter where i may be a bit fitter or maybe bulk up?

    Ask your coach.

You walk around at 77kg? How ripped are you? If you could get to 73kg on a high exercise and controlled diet I'd say cut to 70kg if you wanted to be extra-competitive. Do the league at 75kg.

You should fight down not up as far as weight is concerned.

If you compete at Boxing use that weight. Otherwise fight at 75kg.

If you can easily put on a stone I'm going to out on a limb and say that you're a teenager? If you are just looking to have your fight fight, I can only hope that it's at the league or some other amateur event, in which case you'll be weighing in that day. Fight at at whatever weight you are walking around at four weeks beforehand.

By the time you need to worry about serious weight cutting, you should have the experience to know exactly what category is best for you.

88kg is a bit big for 5' 9'', I'd say don't cut as you're 15 and should lose weight over time anyway.
