Hi Wayne, I have the team carbon about a year and cannot fault it. Mate of mine bought a Focus Cayo 105 (2009) around the same time and he is very happy with his choice also. TBH there is not much between them in terms of weight or spec. The Boardman feels a bit lighter but you might want to check that out. There are a lot of posts up here about the Boardman so if you do a search you might get some useful info. If I had the choice again I would also consider something from Planet X. A lot of fans of PX on here.
Good luck with whatever you choose, MRR

Like I said to another guy-get the Boardman. I have the Alu version. Can't fault it. It rides quick and climbs well.

Edit; I see Halfords have upped the price on their range. Thats a bit cheeky.

Ya should have also mentioned that Halfords will try your patience. You should ring around a few of them and see if they have any 2009 team carbons on discount or even a pro carbon

    Hi,
They were always going to up the price at some stage the guy in halfords told me they were selling them at that price to gain some pouplarity before they upped the price

Someone on here looking at a Boardman Carbon suggested that the guy in Halfords Tallaght was willing to match Northern prices. This was before the increase though.
When I said something similar to the main man in Liffey Valley(didnt realise at the time) he wasn't best pleased!
Anyway, it is some machine at that price.

They are both excellent bikes but Cycling Weekly and Cycling Plus consistantly give the Boardman excellent reviews so on balance I'd go for it.

Saw the Halfors team at the Ras last year ride them and they look very good too.......

I've owned a Focus but not a Boardman.

Both are decent bikes (although I can only judge the Boardman by spec & reviews, obviously).

The geometry is pretty much identical. The Cayo comes in a wider range of sizes.

The Cayo is almost certainly heavier.

The Boardman comes with SRAM Rival rather than Shimano 105; the gear shifting is different on these (I personally prefer SRAM, but both work perfectly well; some people don't like the SRAM shifting, it's very subjective).

The Boardman comes with a 12-25 cassette, the Cayo with a 12-27. It's cheap to change, but 12-25 is better for racing whereas 12-27 is more appropriate for big hills.

I'd personally take the Boardman (and have recommended to a friend) as I prefer the spec, but neither will disappoint and both are perfectly good enough for racing.

Boardman top tube is more tapered and looks better than fat focus downtube.
Halfords Sligo accepted sterlng off me (year ago) saved a couple hundred,MRR

Thanks to everyone for their opinions. I think it'll be the boardman so. One final question for those who have bought from Halfords. I haven't got a car up in Dublin with me, so I'd be riding this bike away from the store... Is this possible, I know they say they build it for free but will they have a set of pedals I can buy and cycle her away?

I've had a good look at the felts, especially the Felt Z5 (really like it). I'm all for buying from Irish companies and do so whenever possible. But at this price point I honestly don't think I can get any better than these two bikes. Or maybe I can and I haven't noticed? My original budget was around the 1600euro mark but I said to myself I'd only stretch to that for something that was worth that bit extra. (Boardman is 1249euro, cayo is 1200ish euro)
