Hey - some of you might rem I was asking for info here re a brake problem some time ago. Well long and short of it was that I needed to get 57mm drop brakes as my own (49mm) were catching my tyre sidewalls.

Anyways, got them from wiggle as I had no joy with LBS's. So I attached them and, feck, but they were still catching no matter what way I adjusted them.

I brought the bike to 4 or 5 bike shops and showed them the problem and they all said there was nothing I could do(!?) one told me I could leave the bike with him for a couple of week but couldn't tell me what he'd do with it (?).

So I cycled out to cyclesuperstore in Tallaght and as I wheeled the bike in a sales lad was walking out, quick chat and he looked at the bike immediately said my brakes were 'short'. directed me to the workshop and a cursory glance from the mechanic he told me I'd been sold the wrong size from wiggle, I asked him was he sure as none of the bike stores in town thought that was the problem. He came back with a set of shimano tiagra 57mm and showed me the difference. €20 and I had this problem solved. He wouldn't even sell me the front set but explained I only needed to file them down rather than waste money on a new set. fair play. Kudos to them - proper service.

Great to hear of people having good experiences and then taking the time to relate the information.

i do find them very good to deal with as well

the french lad Yannick is super knowledgeable, he pretty much knows everything there is to know about road bikes

Thet are indeed a great bunch out there..I was helped by them a lot in recent times. They are hassle free with returns, very knowledgable (including tri matters) as well as having the loyalty scheme.

+1 on Yannick..Great fella (Just don't start him on LA or Trek bikes!!)

Along with the new Wheelworx in Fonthill, as local bike palaces (!!) they are leading lights..

    Big thumbs up!

I havent been to CSS in a while. But it is a good store. I have often found that tyres, tubes, pads and even Assos gear is no more expensive there than on the online sites.

Having almost chosen the wrong bike recently, Yannick suggested me to test ride a Lapierre. So glad he did. An absolute gentleman with impecible manners. I now proudly own a Lapierre Wood hybrid thanks to him. :)

    too right,

i was fluting about checking out evanscycles for bikes, and compared their lapierre prices to CSS, and CSS was way cheaper on every bike, hard to belive, but great for us :D

Glad to hear you had a good experience and took the time to tell us about it. All to often we just report the bad stories.

Now, for my own experience on the CSS.

I find the customer experience to be very hap hazard. The guys in the services department are particularly suspect at this and could really do with a wee bit of customer focused training. Not a huge amount to ask in this day and age I think.
Sales guys can be poor too. Having said that, I have had 2 good guys explain various bikes and options to be.

I, for one, don't particularly like been spoken down to when asking a question. Can't say they are all like this, but most recent experience this week was that 2 of them were rather rude. In fact, store management will be getting a call on Tuesday from me in relation to this.

I like the bricks and mortar experience for high end items, but I am afraid to say that due to 2 very bad experiences in CSS, and one goodish one, I will no longer be giving my custom to CSS. I am going to move to another LBS.

Left my bike in on Sunday last week and collected it yesterday. New Bottom bracket, headset, rear cassette, chain, gear cable. The guy was very helpful and knowledgeable, he was working on the bike when i got there so i waited around for a bit until he finished. He also took the play out of the rear wheel showing me how to adjust the cones and advised me to get the bearings replaced after another few thousand kms.

Obviously i could have bought the parts and tried to do this myself, but considering i know feck all about fitting parts its definitely worth the extra few quid to get someone who knows what they're doing fix it.

Took the bike out of the shop to cycle home, was like the day a year ago when i bought it off them, felt like a different bike form the one i left in, very good job imo.
