I have a 5yr old cow, with a 10 day old calf, who's beef on grass, fed her silage today, she got sick after eating it, the other cows had no problem with it, she kept eating it and kept getting sick, just wondering is it something to worry about?

For something like this, I would always call the vet out. Most likely something as a result of the calving. A cow that can't eat is in trouble.

Sort it as soon as possible or the cow will go down. That's my twopence worth. But I am a bit ultra cautious, I don't like to wait to see if it will sort it self out.

what do you mean by getting sick? is she getting use of high mag buckets?

if she is actually getting sick you should get the vet - cows very very rarely vomit

Could be due to a combination of being recently calved and poorly preserved silage although you would expect more of a herd problem if that was the case.I would try giving her a couple of ounces of breadsoda as a drench every day for a few days-otherwise check for presence of bad teeth, worn teeth,or any other mouth condition that might interfere with chewing or swallowing. As other posters said -get professional advice.

    vet.. probably post calving problem.
afaik. a cow throwing up her cud on the ground is a sign of high nitrogen levels in the grass/silage, not 100% though. some one please verify

bread soda as mentioned and a few stomach powders (stimulex or ruminative etc)

offer high fibre .. good quality straw or hay, a very small amount of beet pulp

if it persists as stated seek vet advise
