Inheritance issue

A relative died leaving no will. His wife and several children surivive him, however one child who had a number of children died a long time before. Through time the family became distanced & there wasn't a close relationship between these grandchildren & either their grandparents or the rest of the family. The family are aware that these children ... now adults, are entitled to their Dad's share of the grandfathers estate & most are more than happy for this to proceed. A valuation was carried out & at the solicitors request the family tried for a time to contact the grandchildren suceeding only recently. The grandchildren have now gone to a solicitor to request revaluation & also want any previous gifts made by their grandfather to any of his family to be considered.

    2 questions ....

    1. Surely a valuation carried out about 3yrs ago would be more advantageous to them?

    2. Can they have previous gifts considered? & if so why?

Some of this man's children would have recieved gifts but not all ... one recieved a small building & some land & built up a business there another some land & a couple sites for their houses 2 that I know of recieved nothing.

Can anyone advise re the position? ... His widow & other members of the family are very upset and confused as there was & is not any issue with these grandhcildren recieving their entitlement.

There is no legal advice available here at all. See and read charter. Sorry. Consult a solicitor.
