PROBLEM CONNECTING ACER LAPTOP TO PHILIPS LCD TV

I have decided to post this on this thread as it was the closest I could find with my enquiry, can anyone help?

Hi, I have a Philips SLC7. 5E. LA 32 inch LCD television. I acquired an SVIDEO cable to connect my laptop to my t.v. My laptop is ACER travelmate 5720.I managed to get it connected and was able to view my computer on screen, but my acer computer went blank as it is wont to do but comes back when I tap any key on the computer. When I did this my television would no longer transmit my computer on its screen( blue screen). I have tried everything including reconfiguring my computers resolution but to no avail. Please help - Its driving me cazy esp. after getting a taste of how much better it is to be able to view my videos on tv. Kind Regards, Chris.

Post moved to it's own thread. There's no problem creating a new thread if you need it:)
Now, what operating system are you running? Xp, Vista, Windows 7? If you right click on the desktop and click on display properties, or something to that effect, you should be able to add additional monitors.
And if the screen is auto turning off you should go into the control panel and click on "power settings" in there you should be able to tell it not to turn off the screen after a certain time.

Thank you Alan for that piece of info and thanks for setting up thread for me. I operate vista. I have gone into display settings and messed around in there but still no joy. I have reconfigured my resolution, lowered the bit from 32 to 16, applied settings,...everything!

first off - the important thing with S-video is the resolution and refresh.. Most TVs won't take more than 800x600 @ 60Hz. Some do, so check your manual.

Unfortunately I couldn't find the specs on your TV - can you check the model number again? It should be something like 32PFLxxxxx

As Alan suggests - your screen goes blank because of the power settings - not the display settings. Go to Control Panel->Hardware and Sound ->Power Options. I'd suggest creating a new power plan where nothing goes to sleep so your videos keep on playing.
Why the TV doesn't get re-enabled when you wake it up suggests a bug somewhere. For some reason the Acer is waking up the LCD, but not the external video. This is why it disappears from the TV. When this happens I suspect you'll have to manually force detection of the S-video again - so best thing is to prevent it from putting the display to sleep in the first place.
