D-Boys SCAR-L AEG Improvements?

    Hello,

I have myself a lovely DBoys Scar-L AEG. I played my first propper airsoft game today down at Fingal and I have a few slight issues that Im curious to see if they can be improved.
[Im a complete noob to AEG's and such. Any advice on how to take apart an AEG or a diagram for assembling/disassembaling would be greatly appreciated.]
Can I get a better fire rate?
    - Is that by using a better gearbox?
    - What gearbox would you suggest?
Is there anyway to improve accuracy?
    - If yes, How?
    - What item would you suggest?
I want to get a better battery, One that would last a full day of skirmishing (My goal for Summer is full days rather then 1/2's)
    - What battery would you suggest?
    - Does a new, higher powered battery require better internals?
    - If so, What would need upgrading?

    Thanks for reading,
    Stephen

A battery will give you better rate of fire.:)

Best to get a 9.6 but I'm not sure if they fit in the scar,I remember a topic a few month ago about trying to fit one in.

You could re-wire the battery through the upper reciever and have a 9.6v battery in a PEQ box on one of the side rails of your SCAR L.

Generally speaking , your internals wont need to be upgraded if you have a quality brand i.e VFC/G&G but becasue its a DBOYS im not sure . A larger battery might make bits of your internals after a while.

To get better accuracy I would recommend a Madbull 6.03mm tigh bore barrel, they are failry expensive but well worth the buy, i have one in my gfc hk416 and it's pretty damn accurate with .23g bb's . Or as an alternative you can try a differernt grade of bb rather than the standard .20g bb, I find that .23g are best for an AEG as you get the best of both worlds as regards to distance and accuracy. Personally I find that anything above a .23g bb in an AEG is a bit of a waste.

    Hope this helps

Cheers for the replies. If I was to get a 9.6V Battery as described, What internals would need upgrading (To avoid the current one's being mashed up after a while) ?

You'd probably want a new metal gear set and a re-inforced piston after a while

Would an Airsoft retailer modify an AEG for you? Personally I would be slightly uneasy opening up my own AEG. Knowing me I'd send it over a Joule and then be in a world of problems.

They would indeed,I'm like you mate terrified to open up a gun,the last one I tried to open which was my MP5 didnt go too well,in fact I was trading PM's with Leftyflip just to find out how to put the stock back on which I eventually got :P

If you live in Dublin you should contact Tony from Eirsoft and tell him your requirment(s) and what you would like done. :)

    Nice one guys, Cheers.

Also, What sight would be useful on an AEG? I looked myself and its just mindblowing

Well it all depends on what you want.

If you want a DMR (Designated marksman rifle) then you may wish to buy a magnified scope of sorts

If youre going to be playing an assault role then youre going to want fast target aquisition so an EOTech or an Aimpoint would be your best bet.

I have a HK416 and I'm an assault role so i have a G&P 551 Holographic sight, good sturdy construction and works pretty well, I also had a G&P Military style Aimpoint Red Dot Scope (no magnification). Personally I prefer the holographic sights.

But at the end of the day it's down to what role youre playing and what you like personally

There's no need to go replacing the gearbox the stock one is fine as it is, if you want to do some upgrades to it get some bearings and shim the gearbox to make it more reliable for ya, it doesn't need replacing as a whole, if you want to upgrade the power just get an ms90 spring that will bring you close to 1J.

To improve your range and accuracy get yourself a tightbore barrel(Prometheus/Madbull/Vanaras) and a Guarder Clear silicon hop rubber.

These mods will make it a better rifle without going mad replacing gearboxes etc.:)

Hehe. If I was to contact Eirsoft or a retailer with a list like that, Would they price it and be able to do it?

The easiest and cheapest way to improve your accuracy and range is to change the hop-up bucking to make like Guarder or Systema
If you want to further increase accuracy then fit a Tight Bore barrel maybe a 6.03mm by Madbull, Prometheus, Vanaras etc
A change to a 9.6v battery will increase your rate of fire, but alas you can not fit a 9.6v battery into the stock with out altering the stock
There is room in the stock for the battery to fit in but there is not enough room to get it in
You have to remove a piece of the stock under the adjustable cheek rest
I have done this to a DBoys Scar before and it was very successful
See photo you need to remove a piece 20mm long of the stock that I have coloured red, this gives you the extra room to get the battery in

If you want to improve the longgevity of the gearbox then you should relpace the nylon bushings with either metal bushings or bearings and shim the gears also
This will allow the gearbox to run sweeter and faster without putting any extra strain on the internal components and it will help you get the maximium out of your 9.6v battery if you decide to get one
That 9.6v battery has to be a mini type the largest capacity mini that I have seen is 1600 mah

Cheers for the info. Any idea how much the supposed changes would cost?

    Guarder hop-up bucking €13 - €15
    Bearings €12 - €15
    Shims €6 - €7
    9.6v 1600mah mini battery €30ish
Tight bore barrel $16 -$57 from RSOV

Battery, Hop-up, Bearings and Shims can be got in ireland and I have given you the average price for these items
The tight bore barrel I have taken the prices from RSOV, $16 for a Vanaras up to $57 for a Prometheus
If you wish to order them from abroad or a few Irish Airsoft retailers here also stock tight bore barrels

As for the cost of getting these items fitted that depends on the Person/Retailer you get to do the work for you

It kinda depends on who you get to do it i suppose, a new gear set could set you back €30-40 depending on what brand you buy and then maybe another €10 if you get someone else to do it for you

There is no need for a new gear set, the DBoys gears a more then good enough for the job
If you wish to further up the rate of fire then fit a High Speed Motor

All the DBoys gearboxes that I have worked on have had nylon bushings fitted as standard
Maybe there are some models fitted with metal one but as yet I have not seen any
