Are you psychic? Want to find out?

Other forums run competitions, and I thought it might be a fun idea to try one here too. I use the word competiton loosely, its more of a test. There may not be a prize, and really there arent any winners or losers.

I want to guage the level of interest there would be in running something here.

What I had in mind maybe, was that I create a file on my computer containing information about a well known or infamous person. Someone who has been in the public eye enough to end up on wikipedia, if you know what I mean? This person would have had lots of interesting things happen in their life, and naturally would now be dead. :) All I would give on this thread is the name of the file or something equally random. (Psychic ability shouldnt be hampered by something like that)

The idea would be that you post your own thoughts on this person, looks, lifestyle events, dates, anything at all that comes to mind. We could see what level of accuracy we might get. There would be no comeback for being wrong, just a laugh at seeing what may or may not come up.

If anyone has an interest in taking part, could you respond here? Its just for fun really, open to psychics, non psychics, skeptics, the lot. Thoughts on the test itself are also welcome.

Right, I'm going to throw in a couple of guesses for whom the mystery person might be.

    1. Is it Susan Sarandon?

    2. Is it Marie Curie?

I'm not sure how all of this is supposed to work, or if the above is the sort of required response.

    Ah well, f*ck it.

Sugar. Scratch that, seeing as she 'ain't dead yet.

Just her relationship with Tim Robbins. :P :)

    Why give hints?

This seems a bit more "20 questions" than a psychic test.

Why a well known or infamous person as opposed to an obscure one? The former would just lend itself to lucky guesses.

    Oryx, Have we started yet?

I hadnt but I guess some have so lets go.. Just to keep this as described Ill put this persons details in a file called 'psychic' tomorrow. I already know who it is. :)
The reason I pick someone with a public history is so that the details are already well known and can be verified, and arent just my say so. It also means its someone with a life thats not just mundane everyday stuff, so more interesting for the purpose of the game. :)
Everything we do could be subject to guesses, I still think itll be good if a guess is spot on.
I dont want this to be just throwing out names. To take part, describe the person you think this is without a name. Male or female? Young or old when they passed? Tragic or happy life? Good or bad? What makes their life story unique? And anything else you want. Only give a name last, if you think you know who it is. Ill give no hints, and I wont confirm or dismiss anything till we are done, apart from saying this person is dead. :) Lets give it a week from today for anyone who wants to submit to have a go.

Hope thats ok, so lets go :)

@ Herbal Deity. Your confusing my posts. The she above referred to Katie Price, who, as a living person, is not the subject of this test. :D

I promise you Ive not given anything away.

Thanks, but you're a bit late with your assistance as I realised my mistake shortly after I posted the Susan Sarandon guess. Read back and you'll see...

Marie Curie is very much dead, btw.

Okay, I'm going to try throwing around some statements, whether they're on-target or not...

    - The person is male.

    - May have been American and had Irish connections, or there was some sort of link between the two countries via his work.

    - Connection to politics or acting.

    - Might have been one to sport a beard or some sort of facial hair.

    - Had fair hair and blue eyes.

    - His death was connected to either an airplane, car, or motorbike.

    - He was a smoker. May have been pictured smoking cigars. His smoking habits may have been part of his 'image'.

    - He died before the age of 40.

    - He played basketball at some point in his youth.

    - He was usually a smart dresser.

    - He was close to his mother when he was alive, but she possibly died when he was a young fella.

    - This man was slightly taller than average (about 5' 10") and had a medium build.

    - He dated a couple of well-known women who worked in the field of entertainment.

That's all I can think of spewing out at the moment. :)

I will have this person on my mind, and if anyone needs something like a visual hook or trigger to work we can figure something out. But perhaps just use the post above and answer the questions about the person. Dont try to guess. Just put down whatever your gut feels.

Right Im gonna wind this up now, thank you to everyone who put in a reply.

Noone got it right, but a few got some details, even though in the main they were the more general type of information.

The person was male, and american, and died aged 52. His name was John Wayne Gacy, he was a notorious serial killer who was executed by lethal injection. He had a troubled upbringing, was close to his mother, was not sporty (was called a sissy). Someone saw him in a blue shirt with a white teeshirt, which to me is generic prison uniform! wikipedia has a good page on him if you want to check it against the information you gave.

Sometimes during an experiment like this you will hold back information because it seems ott or ridiculous, when you see it was right it can make you go doh! For instance JWG used to work as a party entertainer part time, dressed as a clown.

Most people chose a man, but someone mentioned Marie Curie initially, she was one of the people I was thinking of using. karynp's female and Shirley Temple I dont know about. Karyn's could have had some aspects of me (Im such a saint, yeah) but thats if Im grasping for a hit really.

But thanks again for giving it a shot!

I read a book about that langer a few years ago. He was some sick, brutal bastard. The things he did to young fellas were unsettling, and I'm someone who usually has a strong tolerance for horror, blood and gore.

Yeah, I think he actually threatened a little girl and made her cry when he was performing his clown act at a party once. He freaked the crap out of her. He was very Jekyll and Hyde. Unbelievably messed up in the head.

Yeah, I mentioned her first when I was guessing Susan Sarandon as well, before I changed it all when I realised I had to pick a dead person.

Sure it was a bit of fun anyway. :D

Id like to have a psychic exercise like the one above, but with a visual trigger that you can all use to help connect. Unfortunately a photo of a landmark or something connected to the person would just give the game away. Im still working on it and will put something together for early next week if ye're still game.

In a development group, exercises like this are used all the time. So it is a good way to start. If you want to ask a bit more, maybe start a new thread for information on what to do?

If you have a scanner, you could put the drawing in there, press the scan button and save the image scan on your computer. Then upload the 'photo'/scan to your boards account photo album. When it's been uploaded, open the picture and copy the URL of it. Then write your post and click on the little yellow and grey icon (it looks like a pyramid with a sun overhead) - 'Insert image' - and paste the URL you had copied into the little field that appears.

You could also just take a photograph of the sketch if you have a digital camera and then upload the photo of it to your computer and do the same as above. :)

I suppose one straightforward way would be to trust your instincts as you go about your day-to-day business. This would also encompass listening to your bodily instincts and just getting enough exercise, rest and eating well. I'm no expert on any of this, but I imagine it'd be difficult to perceive anything 'psychically' if you were very far removed from everything around you and you weren't in peak physical shape.

A lot of people like to meditate and/or pray. I suppose meditation shouldn't have to be the highfalutin sh*te you see portrayed on TV, where some dopey ding dong in a kaftan is cross-legged on a gaudy-looking rug like the feckin' Maharishi and chanting gobbledeegook amidst a thick fog of bronchial tube-compromising incense.

You could just sit down in a comfortable chair, or lie down, somewhere quiet for a half an hour and listen to whatever music you find relaxing with your eyes closed and a focus on your breathing. It shouldn't be an elaborate, OTT affair. Whatever feels comfortable to you will work best for you.
