Colour choice!

How the hell does anyone pick ONE colour for their wedding? My bridesmaids all have different colouring and different shapes and sizes and that was what I was gonna base my colour scheme on but now i'm kinda having a dilemma. I don't know if I WANT to pick just one. Will it look kinda crap if I simply choose ALL the colours? I was thinking that instead of table numbers, I could have each table a different colour (white tablecloth and chair covers but coloured napkins and chair sashes) so people could say 'I'm at the blue table or the pink table' or whatever. Would it be cheap and tacky or can it be done nicely? I'm not one for making decisions and o/h is even worse.

I think this could be pulled off and it would look really great at a wedding :) It's called a Rainbow Wedding- search it under wedding themes or just throw rainbow wedding into google and you'll get loads of pics!!

This really is just a taster (there are so many weddings out there) but look here...

    http://creditcrunchbride.wordpress.com/2009/04/13/rainbow-the-cunning-new-wedding-theme-for-the-cash-strapped/

or here.. OBB is great for just idea stealing anyways!! :D

    http://offbeatbride.com/2009/06/santa-monica-pier-wedding

and you could match up your cake with some royal icing in fancy colours!!

    Crazy+Wedding+Cakes+2.jpg

there are some crazy ones out there, but if you keep it subtle and have a background colour, say white or cream, and then just add the rainbow colours as accents it wont look tacky!

I love you :D thank you! Most people I've put it to suggested sticking to pastels to avoid the tackiness... they could be right but it could certainly be done with bolder colours... I'm crap at details though so dunno if I could pull it off.:o

That cake is fab :D my brother's making the cake though and he's already terrified so I must show him that pic lol. I've asked people to do stuff like that and they're all afraid of messing it up but they don't realise that things like that add to stories you can tell in years to come. The cake may look silly but I'll always be able to look at the pics and say proudly 'my brother made that and it tasted amazing'

LOL!!! we are having pastels :D but not just to avoid being tacky... its just the colour scheme works. We (I say we but really its just me, h2b said ya thats grand!!!:)) have a " 1950's/dolly mixture/tea party" theme going and his favourite flavour is lemon.. so ah lemon colour. My favourite colour is pink, but not in a princess barbie way, more of a "I live for candyfloss" type way and then throw in some greens and white and you have our pastel smorgasboard!

Just little details are the easiest to pull off... Bold colours always look great when you think about how you are gonna do them. I love your table colour idea, with paper napkins matching and that, they are cheap as chips when bought whoelsale online too so that'll be easy to sort out. You could do centre-pieces to match, like have a bowl of coloured sweets in the centre of the table that match the tables colour and people can be picking away at them for the day. Edible centre pieces... ;) and your bouquet could be like this one http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/37952/1h/image.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/i/f/e-green_3-11-8888_2 to pick up the colours that you have going on...

we have my sister-in-law to be making up cupcakes as her gift to us and she's doing all the matchy pastel colours on the frosting on the top. If your brother could pull off a cake like in the picture then I wouldn't give a flying crap who thought it looked silly, Id be all over that! Why are people afraid of messing things up, weddings are supposed to be fun and its the laughs ye had on the road to it that everyone will remember!! I'll pitch in if you want!!!;)

I really hope you can pull this together and it works out for you :D

Oh my... I LOVE the bouquet... you're making me think this is a brilliant idea so thank you! I also love the rainbow dress in one of the links you gave above. I was always thinking I should go with the big dress since its the only chance I'll have really... but after trying some on, they all make me think 'meh'. I really want a short WHITE one... but both short and white are tough to find in the shops and I don't wanna go the ebay route :o

We haven't budgeted for centrepieces though so I'll have to revert to the recession thread for that one cos it DID look great in the pic :D

I love the idea of the cupcakes too... I suggested that to him. He makes lovely cakes but he's just not really tried the icing and stuff and he doesn't really want to but I know if he accepts the challenge, he'll do it right!

Thank you though... when's your wedding?

Oh google felt bouquets too... If you liked that one I reckon you'll love these too. Im making my one from felt... and www.etsy.com is gonna come in handy for ideas too.

I get you with the big dress, Im a little too short for one so I went with tea length and am putting to poofiest hot pink petticoat I can find under it... I went the online route, found mine on www.lightinthebox.com they have a short white dresses section you could take a gander at and then take ideas to a dress-maker. short and white would be easy to whip up, and shouldn't cost that much either. Would you not consider online for dresses???

Centre pieces, glass bowls, vases etc you have at home, round up your families and friends ones... or IKEA them!! I saw big fish bowls there before Christmas for €1.79. Bulk buy sweets online, theres a shop www.slipsweetshop.com in Kilkenny they may be good for bulk buying.

Our wedding is July 2012 (ya I know years away!!!!:D) but Im (hopefully!) heading back to do a two year masters, while holding down a full-time job in September. Im trying to get alot of the big things organised before it, just so Im not in this mad rush when it comes to planning. We are having only 50 at our weding too so theres not much to it but then because there are so few guests I want it to be done right, not half assed and thrown together if you get me...

    How about you?

I'm having 80 people a year from now. I'm great at doing plenty of research and then doing absolutely nothing about it :D . I too want to do most of the stuff NOW and get it out of the way so I can really enjoy it but I spose there'll still be plenty of last minute stuff no matter how well you plan.

I think it's cos I'm short that the big dresses don't suit me... I've always been one for short dresses anyway (maybe cocktail length but wouldn't be against tea length) so think I should go with what I like and what I can really enjoy the day in and be comfortable. But I don't get why most dresses are not white in the shops. I tried on ONE white one and it was maybe the most stunning colourwise.

I'm more of a baby blue girl :) . I'd do online for anything apart from my dress... I know things can be altered but I wanna try it on and on and on before I commit :D . I'm just going to have to go to ALL the shops I think.

I forgot centrepieces could be so cheap... I keep thinking of prices 'per person' and how quickly they can add up.. but ten tables is much better than 80 people.

    wooo.. baby blue! here's One

and then there's Candy Anthony swoon... If you have a budget for her, you could get the most AMAZING dress here, she's in London so you could shop around over there. Do a day trip over and back. you could try Vivien of Halloway for cheaper dresses but they are very 1950's so maybe not your style. Oh Oasis had a white cocktail dress in the Sunday papers not so long back, I think if you stay out of the bridal shops and head into more highstreet, you find what you're looking for.

I know what you mean about "per person", its hard to think whole scale sometimes!

-side note- Do you remember sticks of rock? that came in all multi-colour stripes and you got them on holidays? They had the names of the place on it in the inside white part... well I read a post somewhere on the interweb about a couple who got them made up with their names on the inside of the stick... and they didn't cost the earth!! that would be awesome at your colourful wedding. You could give them out as favours... i'll find the post again and get it too you!! :D

oh I like those Candy Anthony dresses... but I'm afraid my budget won't balloon that far :D but certainly I was thinking more high street for the bridesmaids anyway. Have you seen the blossom hill ad with the three girls on the train and they're all different colours? I'd like simple dresses like that.

if you're looking for 50s wedding dresses, you could try http://www.dollycouture.com based in US and there is a UK equivalent (cheaper too!) but can't think of it off the top of my head :(

I dont know if anyone remembers Ashley and Claires wedding in Cornation Street, I cant find pictures of the bridesmaids dresses but they were different colours of the same dress as far as I recall. The trick would be to choose 3 different colours which are either all bright or all pale so they fit in together, 3 different shades of the same colour or the same colour but 3 different dresses. I thought of this myself but with it being a christmas wedding decided to stay put on red.

Some pics I found on a search that I like

All of those ideas sound brilliant. I'm fairly well into planning our wedding and after facing a few issues already I think that anyone who is brave enough to break away from the mould should be applauded.

Namurt, I know what ya mean... I wanted to do everything differently but it just seems so easy to do things 'how they're done' and I'm usually one to take the easy route :o
