Biggins Proves He's Human - Fooled by Win7 Update! DOH!!!

This was going to be an IT post in the appropriate sections but a worrying aspect seems to have come to light!

In a recent update, Microsoft has included a patch to include a heuristic-based scan of all storage media which looks for "terrorism-related" material. If it finds anything it will then flag it and send it to an unidentifiable address.
The update was earlier known to scan for any anti-activation exploits.
Even though this update isn't required and is unselected when shown in the updates list, many users will assume it to be a bug fix update and include it.

It has emerged however that there is more now to this update than possibly meets the eyes!

    Greater detailed report: http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=670&pgno=0

Is this a trend of things to come?
Its all right saying that "well if I'm doing nothing wrong - what have I got to worry about?" - but if your that non-guilty, do you leave the doors and windows of your home open too for someone to come and go as they please and check out all your stuff too?

    UPDATE:
Thanks to Outlawpete - has shown the above to be a daft joke also which caught my dopey self, Biggins out! DOH!!! :o

What exactly would constitute 'Terrorist Material'? If the words bomb & America appear in a document would it be flagged?

I read on to the bit about them developing XP spyware :( Don't want this to become a CT thread but damn this is dodgy!

Does the creation date of the article give it less credence?

Was curious about this myself but it doesn't seem beyond the realms of possibility.

Just for the laugh if i were to write a word document entitled 'I am a terrorist-please come get me' and put it my personal documents-microsoft would tell the police to break down my door??

Yet another reason to use free open source software.

    Hmm
I imagine if it was an april fools they would go all out and say that it scans the HD for copyrighted materials. But the way the article describes it, makes it sound BS, I mean that the comp waits the user to idle then performs the scan when the user 'isnt looking' ? Thats what sounds odd to me as background scans are common, why wait for the user to leave?

Actually I just found this: http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=670&pgno=1

Talks about W7SP1 including a scan for copyrighted materials, dated apr 1st.
    :pac:

Biggins, just change the thread title to something like:

"What's the best Easter Egg you ever had?"

Then make up some story about mint crisp Egg you had in Hawaii .. blah blah blah.

Within an hour, no one will remmeber the first dozen posts :D

While I'd have trouble believing Microsoft doing this, I'd completely believe 'Microsoft releases update that scans your computer for pirated MS software.'

An April Fools joke is a reason to use free open source software?

Well I know they do it for their operating systems and for Office.
Either scan and/or check to see if all the files are the originals.

Windows Genuine Advantage has been doing that for years now. It's not secretive or anything though. You're even given a prompt.
