Does anyone know are there plans (I know there's a recession) to build a junction / on off ramps on the M1 on the road between Swords and Malahide? Beside Waterside.

Very, very unlikely. The Swords-Malahide road crosses the M1 too close to the existing Lissenhall and Drinan interchanges (the latter being built in 2005 to accommodate Swords after the M1 was built). The trafic on this road would also cause huge difficulties for a junction at this location.

    A non-runner in my opinion.

Hopefully not. It would ruin the flow of traffic and is unnecessary.

    No

Totally not necessary imo - just cut through the estate when you come off swords exit to get to Waterside

your efforts would be better used to pitch for 3-lanes in both directions from the Airport to lissenhall!

even the swords exit is a pain in that its too close to the airport exit, which in turn is too close to the M50 exit, which is too close to the tunnel exit, which is too close to the Santry exit, which is too close to the swords road outbound traffic

5 sets of on and/or off ramps in just 3.5 miles (6km, according to google maps)

But, but, the n32 goes to Malahide- Ses so on those big gantry signs on the M1 and M50.....

Northbound traffic can cut through Holywell to get to the Malahide road (in Swords) southbound traffic can get off at Lissenhall and either go by the estuary or take the Malahide road.

The main issue with the Drynham exit is the lack of an aux lane from the M1/M1 junction and the two short merges traffic coming from the airport needs to make northbound.

There's only about 400m of extra lane needed here both sides of the M1.
    Then sort out to Lissenhall.

M1 urgently needs D3 to Lissenhall tbh. Worth noting that the inside verges on the Broadmeadow bridge can probably take D3 - but the smaller bridge crossing Seatown road would need widening.

I live just down from Waterside in Seabury and it's a hassle to have to go through Holywell to get to the motorway - would be better if Mountgorry Way continued down alongside the M1 to Drinan Interchange but I don't think there's the space even if they wanted to do that.

    See below:

As for an interchange at the Malahide overbridge, you'd have to CPO the entire field to the NE of the bridge and make a double slip a-la Athlone bypass to get the required number of ramps in there. Houses in Waterside are too close to the carriageway the southern side of the bridge. The M1 was never really designed to cater for Malahide traffic, mind you neither was the Malahide Road designed to cater for the amount it carries. The actual motorway could probably handle a few thousand extra journeys but the N1 from the tunnel city-bound is where the bottleneck starts and that's choked at the moment every morning, absolutely godawful.

As a slight aside - words fail me as to why the N1 after the tunnel goes from D3, even D4 to S2+1 - why in the name of god was that done? I heard mention it was to appease residents? Surely to god it should be widened to D2 + bus lane, sunk under collins Ave and at least then there'd be a couple less obstacles on the way into town.

Both the estuary bridge and the Seatown road bridge are wide enough to facilitate an extra lane on both sides, no widening would be needed.

The realignment of the R107 should give quicker access to the from the M1/M50 and Malahide if it's every started. Also it's slightly unclear as to how it connects to the M-way.

Wow, never knew that was on the table. Mind you, it's a rubbish plan - leads to the middle of the N32 which would just take the brunt of the traffic. Diverts a ton of cars west just to go east again to Northern Cross, unless they keep the existing alignment too.

No way is it quicker than an interchange at the R106 would be though. Again though, the M1 isn't designed to cater for Malahide. The whole Malahide Road needs upgrading to DC, in an ideal world.
