Which would you prefer - happy ending or a downer? [** POSSIBLE SPOILERS **]

Forget about the answers, explanations, plot, etc for a minute. What kind of ending would you like to see for the characters? A happily ever after, ride into the sunset ending in which everyone survives and gets what they want? Or a dark and tragic conclusion filled with sacrifice, betrayal and death? Or something in between - is bittersweet what it's called?

Personally, I'd really like a dark ending. To put my idea of dark in perspective, I was one of those people who thought that BSG had a ridiculously happy ending. Which of courses it didn't really, but it felt like it compared to what came before.

So what do you think? No spoilers please, and tell us what want to happen and what you think the characters deserve, rather than what you think will happen.

To still give the show any credability it has to be a dark ending.

I would rather it be bittersweet. Something like maybe Jack or whoever is The Candidate having to stay on the island while the rest get to leave.

It's Lost so I doubt it will be a storybook ending.

Dunno. I always felt the character of Locke deserved a happy ending and it doesn't appear that's going to happen. What was all that suffering he went through for?

It varies from character to character what I want to happen but on balance I hope they "win", whatever that means (because I don't know what's going on yet).

Whatever happens, I don't want a grey ending; one where it's unclear what exactly went down and who lived or died. I want resolved story lines, stories that actually feel like they've been told. On balance, I want happy endings but a few downers in the mix to avoid an overly mawkish feel to proceedings.

I think LOST really is the program where the old saying 'Its the journey that counts.' comes to mind most. The ending whether its good or bad is only a an accumulation of the build up and depth these characters have engrossed us in.

I thought Locke would have been perfect to replace Jacob well in the sense that he deserved it. Pity

I choose bittersweet. There will be some happiness I'm sure but there will also be darkness so bittersweet would suit.

EDIT: On a side note...when does it actually end?

I always refer back to Alias in relation to these type of questions. The ending there was
a) slightly ridiculous - Sloane gaining Rambaldi's eternity but getting stuck in a cave with his recently deceased daughter's ghost to taunt him (but does a black smoke monster trump that?)
b) bittersweet with the death of Jack Bristow to achieve the above
c) happy with Sydney and Vaughn getting their life together

So I expect Lost to deliver a bit of all of these too.

I want lots of death and destruction. It has to be a dark ending. Anything else will make it a load of ****.

i know it wud never happen but i'd love (as someone mentioned in another thread) for MIB to get of the island and turn out to be the Cloverfield monster!

i have a feeling theres gonna be a final scene thatll make everyone go ah that was nice. and then therell be a moment like the end of season 2 where them chaps were in the snowy place and the computer started beepin. something just thrown in there as a final confusion for everyone

Sweet Jesus, both of them would be awful.

Above all else I want a good ending but I think a dark ending would be a better one. The idea that MiB wins is kind of fun to think about.
