    Hi

Just like to know if a single axle low loader or general twin axle trailer needs to be plated or stamped in order for it to be used legally on the public road…

I know a guy who makes the low loaders with lorry axles at home but are not plated and is selling them locally to farmers for moving excavators etc but that’s fine until there is an accident and I wonder then are you covered as heard about that these shouldn’t be on the road as not factory made etc

i think most of the new lowloaders and dump trailers are made in northern ireland for that reason because of different regulations there.
as you said in the case of an accident will the lad that makes them be responsible or will you be?

You have to get them plated under irish law but your guy should be able to get it pated its a different company that suppies the pating and he should be able to do it no bother..

i think you would be responsible if you had it on the road and anything happened ,

there was a guy fined in north by police for having a car transporter on the road without being plated, was using it for 5 years no problems till some guy run into the back of him...

also my neighbour has a homemade lowloader not plated either, its to carry 14 ton but i see him many times putting a 18ton dozer on it to take it 10 miles up the road.. pretty silly really,
