    The Washington Post reported Feb. 22 that the decision to launch the offensive against Marjah was intended largely to impress US public opinion with the effectiveness of the US military in Afghanistan by showing that it could achieve a "large and loud victory."

    I highly doubt they went in there without a single scout, map or satelite photo.
    Must be another reason they are moving in.Possibly setting up a more permanent base?

    I guess its a possibility since afghanistans opium productions been up 80% or so since the US arrived.

    Hashish and Opiates. Apparently 10% of the worlds illicit opuim comes from there. It's also a source of income for the Taliban.

    The spanish tried to get the framers there to grow pistachio nuts instead! Thing is they take nearly ten years to cultivate.
