How the hell did they get permission for this? I mean there are estates in Westport that are nearly empty and here they are after granting permission for another 61 houses! Nice to see the planning authority is still as corrupt as ever.

Have to agree, spotted another developer who got planning out the leenaun road for a number of houses when the ones he has built already are sitting there.

Suppose they know that once they get their debt over the 5m mark then its left to the res of us to bail them out while they head off into the sun

I can't understand it at all. They're just dumping more houses where there is already too many.

Anyway, 60 planners in Mayo Co Co - they have to justify their existence somehow...

Hi guys I don't work in MCC or any of the Town Councils, but it is not correct to say the Councils are corrupt.

Some years ago the complaint in Westport were that not enough houses were being built and that young people had to move to Castlebar to get housing. Mayo News carried many stories to that effect. If builders misjudge the market, they lose out and someone gets a cheaper house.

As to 60 planners in MCC - not so. They work in a large open plan office. Next time you are there count them or their desks if you are curious. I estimate about 10 professional planners dealing with current applications, plus another four in forward planning.
