Heading to Rio de Janeiro for 2 weeks in May and want to get in some surfing. Anyone have any advice on where to surf in the city or nearby? (Guidebook is useless) Im a relative novice, been surfing 3 or 4 times and can catch a wave, so would like somewhere that suits my level, has a range of lessons/schools.

Might also look at buying a board and some gear there - anyone bought anything in rio before? Any tips/recommendations?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey,

Just back from Rio, the beaches in Rio like Ipanema etc. are shallow fast beach breaks only good for bodyboarding, bodysurfin or experienced surfers.

if I was you check out florianopolis or itacare great for beginners, good night life etc. Give us a shout if you want more info on the beaches.

    Ciao
