Just wanted to throw Eindhoven out there for anyone who is looking for an extremely cheap weekend away. I was over there last year (used it as a spring board to get to De Elfling) and have to say if you are looking for somewhere to go for a one or two night shopping break you could do far worse. Nice shops, nice restaurants and very little else to do in terms of sightseeing so no distractions from the shops :D.

Flights are direct from Dublin with Ryanair and if you keep an eye out you could get them for next to nothing. Hotels in the area also extremely reasonable.

I met a couple from Eindhoven in Rome last year and mentioned to them that a friend of mine was spending the weekend in Eindhoven.

They looked at me with utter astonishment and asked "Why?" :)

Well this is it, there is absolutely nothing else to do but shop and eat!!.. ;). I just couldn't believe how cheap it was - under 300 for me and the 2 kids for three nights (flights and hotel).

Its a class spot, very nice city and reasonably cheap.. was there for Queens day a few years back, the place was hopping and we still managed to get a room in a hotel in the main square for €70 per night..

You also have a pedestrianised street with 42 pubs on it.. what more do you want. :D:D:D:D

There is very little to see there as the place was basically levelled in WWII so what few buildings they have of historic value, like the cathedral in the main square are very well looked after.. but outside of that, everything has been rebuilt.
