    Hi

Signed up for Eircom 7Mb last Monday (upgraded from 3Mb).
Since then it's been constantly 4 - 5Mb all day long.
(measured via sustained file downloading all day/night at 500-600 KB/s)

I know - contention etc. but if that's the case then why doesn't it change at night (3-4 in the moring) or during the day?

I'm starting to wonder whether it's set at 5Mb max or something like that.

    Bty Line stats 1234-1.jpg

Is there something funny going on, or am I expecting too much? Thanks:o

according to your stats you syncing a 7mb
for every 1mb you are really only getting about 100kb/s download speed

1 Megabits (Mb) = 1024 kilobits (kb), To convert to kilobytes (kB), you simply divide by 8, since there are 8 bits in a byte.

you should have around 7168 / 8 = 896 kilobytes (kB) download speed.

but then contention and your distance from the exchange and the quality of your line can affect your speed.

Just so I can be clear,

Is the 7Mb download speed that Eircom quotes merely the max sync speed?

    i.e
Line Sync speed | IP profile / BRAS Data Rate
    ----7168Kbps---|
    6.3Mbps

Sorry if I'm asking daft questions,:o
