    So, in essence, the ad says: We're mentally retarded - that's why we save with Anglo.

    Not really. They are offering one of the highest interest rates, if not the highest, for deposits. And they are guaranteed by the sovereign state of Ireland. People would want to know this. It's perfectly acceptable and basic good business to advertise this.

    The name has a serious image problem and will undoubtedly be changed if "normal" times ever return.

    Not really. They are offering one of the highest interest rates, if not the highest, for deposits. And they are guaranteed by the sovereign state of Ireland.

    Exactly. I've an account with them on 4% and the money is completely safe.

    If you enquire with them they can send you an info pack with all the relevant info on their deposit accounts. The cover of the main booklet has a load of stock photographs of male and female models of various ages, but one of the girls on the cover (a real hottie) actually works on the phones there.
