My laptop harddrive is chewed (and is currently being fixed by the manufacturer) and its lookin unlikely that i will be able to retrieve data on it such as music. However my music currently sits safely in my iPod. Will it be possible for me to transfer the music from the iPod back to iTunes on my new harddrive?

    cheers guys

Try iFunbox - some of the music files may have funny names when you copy it off the device (iTunes_xxxxxxxx), but at least you'll have it. http://www.i-funbox.com/

I have the iPod classic - it doesn't mention this on the website - will it still work for me?

Sharepod is the easiest tool to use that I've used.

    It's free too afaik.

I use TouchCopy. Its $25 but well worth it. The software is simple, you pick the album or artist from the ipod, click a button and it goes straight into Itunes - no messing!

I used sharepod on my classic ipods and that was great.

I suppose Touchcopy is more for the Ipod Touch and IPhone where there is no disc mode but it also works on the Classics and shuffle.

If it has a disk mode you can just view hidden folders and copy everything out of there.Theyll all be named with random letters like TMQY or something but theyll still have their ID tags.
Once theyre copied just have iTunes set to organise your library and add everything.iTunes will re-name everything properly as it organises. No need for any software :)

Connect your iPod but don't open iTunes.
Go to computer and right click and press explore on the ipod. You need to 'unhide' all the files by right clicking and pressing properties and unchecking the hidden box.
Copy all your music (control + a to select all, control + c to copy, control + v to paste) into a new folder in Music. They will all be called something along the lines of 'F'.
Then you can copy into library in itunes by pressing file and import files into library.

It's free and it works for me. If you've any problems just ask.
