Washing Machine woes?

Ok so the Whirlpool washing machine which is 4 years and 3 months old is giving trouble and fails to drain the water, the last day an error message popped up and I checked the filter and found a color catcher lodged in the filter, I cleared the blockage and ran the cycle again but it still won't drain. I have an 8 year Whirlpool parts guarantee so will only have to pay labour! phew! But will have to wait a until Tuesday until I can phone Whirlpool service and repairs.

Three years ago a family friend died and the house was sold by the family who are abroad, We got anything of use in the house including the washing machine!! as the house was run down and subsequently gutted by the new owner and fully renovated.

Today I got some plumbing fittings and rigged up the garden hose to it and have it running fine in the garage with the waste water running into a large bucket so I can pour it down the drain.

I am not sure of the settings as there was no manual with it, it is a Hoover Quattro system 1200 powerjet model no: AS120-001 manufactured in 2001 I beleive. Hoovers website hasn't any manuals. I wonder is there anywhere I could find a manual for this washing machine or if someone has it could they upload a scan of the page with the settings descriptor! Having it as a backup has been great and saved a tonne in laundromat bills!

I am thinking it is another one of those stupid colour catching cloths, I plan to remove the pump tomorrow and see whats the problem. My drain hose in my spare machine somehow came out of the bucket and flooded my garage since I wrote the 1st post  I have now moved it over to the door and will let it drain out onto the driveway! I have also been missing a sock recently also so your hunch may be correct!

Ok so I since fixed the machine myself today after the spare washing machine got choked on colour catchers also. I spent most of this afternoon ripping hoses underneath the spare Hotpoint and found a colour catcher lodged in pipe leading into the pump. Then I decided to tackle the Whirlpool which I had left on the on long finger for the last three weeks since I got a quote of a €50 to for a callout to just simply look at it.

It was the same story with two colour catchers lodged in the pipe at the bottom of the drum leading down to the pump housing.

Both machines are back working now and I think these Colour Catchers which are just a fancy name for baby ass wipes were invented especially to clog up washing machines and create handy callouts for "technicians" who would then charge an arm and a leg. A book I received as a Christmas Gift back in 2005 was most handy and helpful in this repair and saved me probably the guts of a hundred yo yos. I also used my torx screwdriver set for about the 2nd time ever.

But in fairness,if you read the instructions on the color catcher box,it says you need to pin the sheet to an item of clothing in certain washing machines.
I find them brilliant.I had the same problem with my machine least month and it was a sock.

On colour catchers... Avoid the problem by buying the Lidl colour catchers. They are hugh.. about the size of a childs teeshirt, cheap and last a while.
