downloading the latest movies for iphone

is there any site out there for this? I don't mind paying as long as its reasonable. Last time I tried downloading a movie from the net I got a virus that totally screwed up the laptop..

any links/advice?

I'm not sure of an app that does it but what I do is thes;

Download movies / tv from <mod snip>
Use a free conversion software (handbrake is popular) to convert it to a version that your iphone will play

works for me, although it can take a long time to downlaod a full movie

you could set up a us / uk itunes account

Go to US / UK store and buy a free app. When it prompts for aple I'd click set up new account. Then put in an email address (not your one used for Irish iTunes) then any address and phone number. And click payment method "none"
then ask friends going to US or UK to pick up gift vouchers and redeem them on iTunes.

You can also pick up itunes vouchers online. When setting up a US account, just google for a hotel address in the states and use that.

This is what ive been working on all morning. Itunes us store say they accept paypal, but every time I press the paypal button the computer freezes.

I think at this stage I might try for a us itunes gift card. How does that work? Do they send a card by mail after ordering? Or would they email you an itunes code? Or better still - would they accept an irish itunes gift card codes?

Its a pain the ass how the irish itunes wont let you buy movies. Will go down this route of buying from the us/uk store, failing this I will have to figure out how to copy a dvd to the ipod and just buy them in the shops.

Edit: I have just discovered that gift certificates from the us store can be bought, and the code would be sent by email, but a person needs to have a us store account to buy the us gift certificate. Now need to figure this out......

I did a little bit of googling. There are sites that sells us itunes gift certificates that will allow you to buy from the us store. They charge a little bit more for the gift codes. Like say you want to buy a 15 doller gift certificate. They will charge you 18.40 dollers. You will then have 15 dollers to spend and that converts to 14 euro or something.
It will allow you to pay by paypal. They will send the gift certificate by email. It says it can take up to 24 hours to be delivered.

Im going to take a chance and buy one and will report back here. Heres hoping when I do get the gift certificate I'll be able to continue with setting up an account on the us store.

That's excately what I did. I can't remember what site I used but the code arrived within minutes.

Just on the US ITunes, its $4 to rent a film. Thats pretty cheap. What size file would these films be and what would the quality be like?

HD are twice that.
Quality is perfect and brilliant in HD
Watched The Blindside last week (only out in Cinema here)

I finally figured it all out. It took me all day. I struggled even with the advice given in the earlier posts but finally did it.

Thebiggig and adox your advice was great. This is what I did for anyone whos interested:

I did just as what thebiggig and adox advised.

Downloaded a free application from the us store. Where it asks you for your username and password, I clicked new account. Filled in the details and where it asks for payment details I clicked none. I used the address and phone number of a hotel in the us. Click continue. Over to my email then to verify the account. Us store account created.

Googled us itunes gift certificate. I bought 2 gift certificates - from 2 different websites. Got one of the codes within 10 or 15 minutes. The other one, I got a very dodgy email asking me to send the email and phone number that I used for when joining paypal. Even though it has the little security symbol I think its dodgy. So will provide the link of the good one again.

I bought a movie and I must have to say I am very impressed. The quality is great. It was a music dvd that I couldnt find in the shops here so I was going to send for it, then figure out how to copy a dvd to the ipod. I'm glad that I dont have to do any of that now. Only problem was it took forever to download. Took one and half to two hours. And its only a relatively short dvd of one hour. All in all I am delighted. Thanks again thebiggig and adox.

I downloaded another movie this morning, or should I say it got half way and I was losing the will to live. Had to race off somewhere so pressed pause and had to turn off the computer and go. Will try and download again another time when I have more time but is there anything I can do to make the job of downloading faster.
And for all those used to downloading movies doest it hike up the internet bill.

Why not just leave the computer on downloading when you are out or download overnight?

AS for your internet bill, well it depends what download limit you have per month with your provider and what the cap is. Stay within it and it wont cost anything extra. You can also download direct from itunes onto your iphone/ipod touch if you so wish.

Also with regard to Boxee, if you are a Mac user then Plex is a fantastic free app.
