I'm just beginning the renovation of an old cottage, and I'm wondering if its worth the extra cost of installing k-glass windows?? Any advice would be appreciated.;)

The short answer is no. Well, not financially anyway, you won't see any significant savings in your heating costs.

That didn't stop me from doing just that, though...

Are you being asked for a premium for low-e glass (K glass is a trademark of Pilkington, there are other manufacturers to choose from)? I'd be surprised to hear that you are, given that low-e is the defacto standard these days.

Not sure from your question if you are installing windows or changing glass to existing. Low E or K is the minimum required by building regs, so no one should quote you for ordinary glass. If you are replacing windows you should ask for A rated windows which will include a Low E Glass probably soft coat, and Argon filled cavity which will make a big difference to energy costs, and will cost a bit more
