The "Good" in Good Friday

    Hi can someone explain why the term "Good" in Good Friday, where does it come from why Good...and not say, for example "Holy":confused:
    Surely its more than aesthetics..

    "Good" means holy. In English the word good derives from the word god

    Good Friday
    late 13c., from good in sense of "holy" (e.g. the good book "the Bible," 1896), also especially of holy days or seasons observed by the church (early 15c.); it was also applied to Christmas and Shrove Tuesday.
